ParticipantDanke Andrea!!! I definitely think it’s worth giving these strings a try and I’ll let you know how it all works out. I really appreciate your first hand experience! Btw, I’ve been binging your YT channel, nice playing and I hope to know that many songs someday; great inspiration!!!

ParticipantFor clarification, my uke came with the top string made out of metal, but all the other strings are regular (smooth). It took me two full nights just to play it without a ton of squeaking but when I do, I get over excited and something else goes wrong haha (wish it had a smooth string?).
I’ve an astronomically long way to go on this one, but I will persevere cuz I can’t get the song out of my head (up there it’s an orchestra playing…which should probably happen).

ParticipantAndrew, you really did it this time! I found myself completely lost in the haunting space while exploring your song.

Note: my baritone arrived yesterday and the transition has been difficult from concert, but the biggest challenge is not getting the top string to squeak. Are there less squeaky strings you can recommend?

ParticipantThanks Andrew, the fact that I’m improving is definitely a testament to this site. It seems like magic to me that I can now play an instrument that produces sounds recognizable to the songs I love.
I plan to write a review soon because if one has any interest in the ukulele this is an absolute no-brainer given the tremendous value.
I already told everyone about it at this big ukulele store in So. Cal. and they were all surprised they didn’t know about it when I explained how cool it was. The word is definitely getting out and I love seeing how much you’re growing and look forward to this awesome community getting even bigger!

ParticipantThanks for the encouragement HenriO!
It’s amazing how you can do something wrong when you’re recording that you’ve never once done before in practice.
I messed up the paused before the rundown frets 1-3 as if it was the second (slow) pass, my mind is saying why are you pausing this isn’t the second pass you’re supposed to just go normal speed and yet my hands pause???
Then I inexplicably used new finger positions on the jump to the 10th and 11th fret which slowed me down. In practice I always play it with my ring and middle finger which is weird but it allows me to get there way faster.
Also hitting multiple strings at once on the run down and the list goes on… but I guess it didn’t sound as bad as it sounds to me.I hope to one day be able to play relaxed while recording 🙏

ParticipantWouldn’t it be nice
Wouldn’t it be nice not to have messed this one up; God only knows it doesn’t do Brian Wilson Justice :(.

ParticipantHad to compress above video to make the deadline (internet slow lol). This version is a little less painful on the ears (tried to give it some Doris Day drag)?

Andrew. Reason: I deleted your first post, which was submitted within the deadline. So you will get an entry for this one even though it shows outside of the deadline :)

ParticipantThanks for the feedback I can’t wait to get better at it because it seems like a smooth song to play.
Sorry about the horrendous video quality, your poor ears: noncompressed version
Btw, your J 5 “I want you back” lesson was amazing. Looked simple but because of the syncopation it took me longer to learn than “dance macabre” on the sopranissimo. Just missed the November challenge but at least I have a whole new technique. Thank you!!!
Happy everything to everyone!

I worked so long all month on this one for some reason it was a challenge and then I couldn’t get to upload with music. Couldn’t get to another source due to what’s going on.
I did what I could in my car and it’s a bad take but who cares, what matters is justice for those long oppressed and I hope it finally comes around the world. Let’s keep loving each other through music, grateful for this positive community we have here!

So this is my 3rd song and the first time someone was able to recognize the tune!!! It blows my mind that I can play what is essentially a long game of video “Simon Says” and then somehow an actual song comes out of this tiny instrument (You have to take my word for it…when I’m not recording and make a mistake every strum haha).
I’ve always wanted to play an instrument but never thought I could but this website/instructors made it happen. Definitely the coolest investment I’ve ever made.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all and to all good night!
