I’ve been doing these challenges for a while now and I have a bit of a process for learning new songs. I was thinking about documenting it in a video this month, but the bits I recorded were a bit incoherent. Would you guys be interested in seeing a video like that if I make one next month, though?

robinboydParticipantHi @cstiber. I don’t have ADD, but I can relate to the recording issues. I find that not looking at the camera helps a bit. You can often see me looking up and to the left in my recordings in an attempt not to look at the camera. Other things that help are practicing the tune so much that you can play it inside out and backwards before you try and record, and just having recorded yourself so many times that you get used to it.
BUT, these issues never entirely disappeared for me. They improved but they are still there. I just try to accept it and give myself a break. (Note: Giving myself a break is not always successful, as anyone who I spoke to in the last week of trying to learn Valse Venezolano can attest, but I try).
One other note: Valse Venezolano is hard. I mean, really hard. If you managed to get any sort of recording in your first time recording, it is absolutely amazing. You should pat yourself on the back!
robinboydParticipantYou can mix strings and it won’t hurt the uke. People certainly do it.
BUT having different string means your strings will wear out at different rates, and they might have different tensions or different tones, which could be a bit weird. Also, changing a single string on a tie-bar bridge is a bit tricky. Given that strings tend to be sold in sets anyway, I’d just change them all.
robinboydParticipantI feel like I’m going to be in the minority here.

Here is my attempt at Valse Venezolano. I have to say, this was one of the hardest pieces I’ve ever attempted. Right up there with Moonlight Sonata. I really struggle with speed. With that in mind, I only managed it at 75% speed even though I was originally aiming for 100%.
I really admire everyone who managed to do this faster than 75%.
