robinboydParticipant@elixir – give them time. They have a lot of entries to get through, but they always get there in the end.
robinboydParticipant@laurasil – Duets are a really good idea. I’d love to play some more stuff with Tiffany on another uke.

robinboydParticipant@nosferatu – it really depends on the song and how much I’ve practiced it. It can range from 1 to 20. If I have time, once I get past about 5 tries, I just practice it try to record it the next day. Here are some examples of recent songs. I may have misremembered some.
Greensleeves – 2 takes
Can’t Help Falling in Love – Initially about 5 takes, but then I realised the recording didn’t work, so then another 3 or so.
Sleepwalk – 3 takes
Kemp’s jig – 3 takes
robinboydParticipantInteresting that I can identify the Mandalorian theme when I hear it, but I can’t hum it. It doesn’t have a strong melody, which would make it hard to arrange. Kudos to anyone that manages it.
robinboydParticipantMaking the various mini courses that will comprise the Technique Toolbox master course available separately as well is a good idea. I tend to get overwhelmed when there is too much information, but I think I could manage them as bite-sized chunks.
I’m also looking forward to the harmonics course. I am getting reasonably good at the techniques already, but I admit that I don’t really know why they work, so I am interested in that.
Otherwise, keep up the good work. I love having options to accompany yourself while singing with Christopher and Katie now. I also really appreciate AJ’s arrangements (as you can see from my recent challenge entries). Adding more instructors with different perspectives can only be a good thing.

robinboydParticipant@jinajupiter – That was amazing!
robinboydParticipantHi again.
Here is a short video of me demonstrating the muted strum. I apologise for the poor quality of the playing. I took no time at all to practice.
robinboydParticipantOK. These are the chords I use. I use roughly the same strumming pattern, but I add a mute in the middle. I’ll see if I can make a video, but in the mean time, see what you think of this.

robinboydParticipantHi @laurasil
What you may be hearing is that Aldrine has adapted this for high G uke, whereas Iz plays it on low G. Also, while Aldrine plays a rhythm hit, I think Iz is muting the strings with his left hand.
I spent way too much time trying to work out what Iz does here a few years ago.
I’ll see if I can make a video tomorrow. I just got back from work and I’m exhausted right now.

robinboydParticipantThanks Rickey and Laura.
@laurasil – did you restring your uke with a low G, or buy an extra uke? Glad to hear you are enjoying it. Very well played!December 8, 2019 at 1:45 am in reply to: Participate in the December 2019 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE! Win Kanile’a! #34188

I thought it would be nice to record at one of the local waterfalls this week. I didn’t think about how noisy waterfalls are. Sorry about the background noise. Also, the first note got cut off. Sorry about that too.
Funny story about the waterfall. I had the day off so I thought I would go there to record this afternoon. I didn’t think about the likelihood of there being people there on a Sunday afternoon. Anyway, I turned up and there were people. I thought about going home and coming back later, but then I decided not to be such a wimp so I played at a nearby spot without recording while I waited for them to leave. I was more than I little surprised when they stopped to listen on the way past!
