robinboydParticipantActually, I still think we are talking about the same thing.
The singing part will be in the same key as the uke part, but it will be easier for you to pick up the individual notes. Once you work out the notes, the specific sharps and flats should give you enough information to work out the key. There will be various websites that will help you do that. (e.g. if there are no sharps or flats it’s probably C major/A minor).
robinboydParticipantCool song!
I use an app called Vocal Pitch Recorder to find out exactly what notes are being sung. Then I input those notes in one of the many “key finder” apps to see what keys they fit. I hope that helps. The Vocal Pitch Recorder was vital for transposing the harmony for Because.

robinboydParticipant@hotmilktea – We seem to be struggling with exactly the same bits. I’m glad Andrew said form 1 because I found that is exactly what has helped me.
robinboydParticipantI have a question about partial barres. I’ve always struggled to bend my finger to get the partial barre for the Bb shape. It’s something that I’m able to do a bit better than I used to, but I still struggle, and I find it much easier just to barre all the strings with the index finger (never really had a problem with full barres). Anyway, is this terrible? It’s not something that’s had a huge impact on my playing, so I haven’t let it worry me too much, but should I be more worried about it?

robinboydParticipantThanks. Upon listening back to it, I totally hear that I rushed it in parts.
robinboydParticipantI’m really struggling with the bridge too. It’s not that it’s a difficult note to hit, but it’s really hard to find after singing the verse. Because of that, we actually decided to just do the harmony for the verses and I’ll just sing the bridge on my own. I think it will work stylistically, but we are still a long way off.
robinboydParticipantI’ve been going back and working on Moon and a few other things lately. I’ve found I can only keep about 5 songs in my head at a time to any decent standard. I’m trying to extend that, though.
robinboydParticipantNope, but thanks for the link.

robinboydParticipantHi Sheila,
Whenever I’ve had issues like that, logging out and logging back in has fixed them. Have you tried that?

robinboydParticipant@rickymike – Would you believe the matching was a coincidence?

robinboydParticipantWell, @planetfink just beat me to it, but here is my version of When I’m 64, obviously I was already learning this for Anne and didn’t just learn it in a few hours.
In spite of this one being recommended for a “seasoned beginner,” I found it really challenging. I think it was a stylistic thing. I’m used to playing much more laid back pieces, so this was much more upbeat than I’m used to, even if it wasn’t any faster. Anyway, I think I managed to get the upbeat feel, even though I squeaked a few notes. (Now to finish learning Because, which is much more in my wheelhouse stylistically.)
P.S. The towel on my lap was because this shirt has ultra rattly buttons.
Oops. Forgot to say I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER again.
robinboydParticipantIt took me a while, but here is my cover of When I’m 64 for you. I hope you are managing okay in what must be a really tough time.

robinboydParticipantI’ve already been learning both of the beginner options and I can report that neither of is “easy.” Good luck everyone!

robinboydParticipantIf it helps, I just record using the default video recording software on my Android phone. I usually play concert ukuleles.
robinboydParticipantSo, I was thinking the same thing a while ago, and a nice man named Campbell created these tabs for me.
However, there are 2 issues with them.
1. The uke does not have enough tonal range to do this properly, even with a low G, so there are a few bits that sound odd. I’m thinking specifically of the second measure.
2. The actual melody gets really lost in all the harmonies.
I figured out that I can solve both issues by adapting the tab for my guitarlele and getting my wife to play the melody line on her uke, but I kind of lost impetus half-way through doing this. It’s one of those things that I’ll return to one day.
In the mean time, I hope the tab is helpful.
