It took me forever to work out what you were talking about. I was looking for red and white bits on the tab and the onscreen tab viewer. Eventually I found the rhythm hits in the video, which I have to admit, is something that I’d ignored up to this point.

@hotmilktea – I have been playing for years now, and I still aspire to have the sort of feel that you have already.

I hint as to why you might want to use that fingering sometimes lies in the moveable chord shapes lesson that Lisa was talking about on another thread.

In terms of my uke resolution, I have been taking it easy and learning what I want to without putting any pressure on myself, so that is going well.

    I haven’t lost any weight though 😉

It helps that I work from home 😉

So it’s the car that’s the worry?

If it helps, I recently took my all-solid uke on a 10-day car trip. Like Andrew suggested, I was careful not to leave it in the car, but otherwise, it was fine.

    Hey Marni,

Can you give us some more information? Are you taking the ukes with you or leaving them behind? What sort of temperature change are we talking about? A change of 100 degrees Celsius would probably be detrimental to any uke, but I don’t imagine we would be looking at anything that extreme. Is there likely to be a change in humidity too?

Also, is your Makala Dolphin really plastic? I thought they were laminate and the website says they have kauri tops with composite back and sides. (https://kalabrand.com/collections/makala-dolphins/products/mk-sd-car)

It’s a custom Kanilea. I remember watching one of his videos on Ukulele Underground where he talked about getting it made. The numbered frets are to make it easier for him to teach.

    Hi from across the strait.

We have the opposite problem when practicing. I use my uke practice as a way to distract myself from work, so rather than practicing for an hour at a time, I practice for 5 minutes at a time, but I do it 12 times a day.

I don’t know what the Beatles did, but this guy used the technique well to achieve the sound he was after. Obviously we won’t be doing that…

If anyone else is thinking about singing the harmony, I’ve found this video really helpful. Thanks to Katie for keeping this in the original key. It would be so much harder otherwise.

Thanks. I noticed you fretted the Em chord differently in Moon from Evan.

I’ll use the videos as a general guide and keep in mind the principles that Matt talked about in his live lesson when working out how I want to fret, then.

Hi @bzediver. I just played it with a metronome set to 90bpm and it seems about right to me.

Hi Becky. That “yet” is important. I’m currently far beyond my wildest dreams of what I thought I would achieve when I started playing. Just keep at it and see what happens.
