My Index is still killing me so I went for an easy(ish) piece this time. I took some tiny bits of creative liberty with it and hope that’s alright =)
Happy Holidays everyone!

sir_anzalotMemberThanks for your Feedback @Stephen !
I played it this way on purpose but I actually stumbled into it by accident at some point. Ended up liking it better this way so I kept at it 🙂November 30, 2022 at 3:24 pm in reply to: Participate in the November 2022 Member Challenge – WIN $6,000 Kanile’a #54869

Hey everyone! Though I originally wanted to do a lot more than what I ended up recording I finally have a submission ready. I actually learned all three of the Zelda Songs this month but seem to have overdid it a bit with that. My fretting index is now quite strained and so I had to choose one song to record instead of the whole medley I had planned out. I guess recording all of it in one take would have been a nightmare so I settled for just the one instead and now I am happy I did because I barely made it through that recording session with an accaptable take. Anyway, props @brettboy for his medley and thanks @andrew for the piano clip though I didn’t end up using it – I might still when I got time on my hands and had the chance to recover some index stamina. Hope you enjoy my take on Zeldas Lullaby 🙂

sir_anzalotMemberThanks Andrew!
Also on that Note: The Piano sheet seems to include a buch of Notes that AJ doesn’t play in the Video. Mainly in the form of bigger Chords than what he actually plays. Why is that?

sir_anzalotMemberYour video was so freakin cool again @mark65536 I thoroughly enjoyed that as a die hard Zelda fan! I hope you’re aware that you’ve set quite the standard for yourself to live up to with those latest works of yours 😀
I won’t be cheap and copy your approach but thank you for posting the Software anyway. Champ move!

sir_anzalotMemberThank you @Stephen 🙂
sir_anzalotMemberI think my biggest Ukepiphany was the insight how crazy different classical and modern music are from each other.
When I learned the Songs for the April and May Challenges, which were Prelude in C nd Yesterday respectively for me, there was such a huge difference in time necessary to learn them it blew me away. I grinded away at the Bach piece for weeks just to memorize it and even more to be able to play it halfway clean. When I started learning Yesterday immideately afterwards, it only took me two days and I was done with the whole Song.
This was quite the experience for me. My learning capacity has noticibly grown by that and I am now far quicker to memorize pieces structured in a modern way 🙂

sir_anzalotMemberI already posted that on Youtube but man this Challenge is going hard! I’ve been playing the LoZ Games for 25 years now and it is by far my most beloved Video Game franchise. Choosing between any of the three Songs will be quite the ordeal.
Nice work @clempek and @johanna2509 for already Posting such great work 🙂
Happy Playing everyone & good Luck!

Hi everyone, here is my entry for this months challenge. I love Stranger Things and my low G is currently out of commission so this was quite the no brainer. Happy Halloween!

Hey everyone! This months song choice was unavoidable for me I guess 😀
Here is my take on The Bridal Chorus. I took the liberty to sprinkle in some changes for flourish here and there but it’s not much. Hope you’ll like it 🙂I play this on my Kumu Concert which is the first Uke my now Fiancé gave me as a present a while ago now. It may not be my finest Instrument but it is my very cherished travel companion I take with me more or less everywhere I go.
sir_anzalotMemberSure, happy to help!
As it seems you’re pretty eager to get started with this so I thought I’d leave some more Info here. This time more in the form of video and some additional notes from my side. The videos are both guitar centric but that’s only because for now it’s pretty much the closest thing you’ll get when you search for how to handle your recordings in a DAW.
The following is made by Paul Davids and shows an Ableton approach. He’s an awesome Guitarist with a lot of top notch YouTube content. I learned a thing or two from him which I could apply to the Ukulele as well. Great guy!
The first three and a half minutes are pretty much just him talking about mic placement and recording the samples he’s going to work with afterwards. Not too important for you right now but who knows, maybe one day. The interesting part comes afterwards: Here he goes over some of the most important post processing steps after you’re done recording. Those would be:
(- Adding a High Pass Filter; optional and depending on recording situation)
– Adjusting the EQ Curve
– Applying the compressor
– adding Reverb (much better to do it here than in your initial recording)I want to highlight that what he does in this video is on a very professional level but he’s been in this for decades so don’t worry if what he does seems a bit much. You also don’t need to concern yourself with the whole stereo panning part for now. It’s just a good overview of the process and you can generalize from there =)
I’d additionally like to add this one as an honorable mention and an Audacity reference.
Far less professional but he also gives a good rundown of pretty much the same process which is easy to follow. He also touches on normalization which Paul Davids does not.
I’m anxious to hear what you’ll come up with once you start with all this!
sir_anzalotMemberThe battery thing is correct and one of the reasons I went for it. I’m selecting all my gear with that in mind because I want to be able to go out busking as soon as I feel up for it 🙂
The whole undo / redo / delete thing you described is pretty much the same for any looper with just one track. If you want more than that you gotta get one with seperated channels. There is the TC Electronic Ditto X4 which is one on the more reasonable priced side of things in that department but I don’t have any experience with that one. Another option one could go for is the Digitech Trio+ Band Creator. You only have one loop on that one as well, but can toggle Bass and / or Drums to accompany you in different styles. Everything else which is recommandable from there with distinct channels starts at 500 – 600 Bucks and only gets even pricier.
But of course there is always the option to just get multiple “small” loopers and put them together in the signal chain 😉
EDIT: You have to be careful about the order you set them up / record stuff in here though to not record again what one looper is already looping.-

sir_anzalotMemberMinor correction on what @surferjay said about the Boss (assuming you’re talking about the basic RC-1) looper in the pro / con section: It has no memory function in the sense that you can permanently store your recordings in an alloted memory space, that’s right. But the last session you record is always stored even if you turn it off / disconnect it from power. You always have to deliberately erase everything if you want to start from scratch. I’m using that one and I can attest to that =)
That said, I still think starting out with a looper for 35 bucks is a good idea! That way you can check if you dig the whole concept and if so, upgrade to a more advanced one later on. The RC-1 is still pretty steep for what it does. I’m going to be upgrading to the Boss RC-5 sooner or later. That one has better sampling, an in-built drum machine as well as dedicated memory.
