Unfortunately I missed out on entering last month, but remembered just in time for this month. Next year, I hope to have time to submit the harder arrangements. Merry Christmas!

It’s been a year since I’ve submitted an entry. Juggling college and my jobs doesn’t leave much time for learning new material – so I came up with a fun solution.
I gave myself a 10 minute time limit. I chose the easier song, watched Steven play it 2-3 times, ran through it twice, and then recorded it – all under 10 minutes. Fortunately, I was familiar with the technique. I wish I had time to perform the harder song, but this was a fun challenge, and I look forward to using this format again.

Because of school, I finally took Stephen’s advice and gave myself a 10 minute time limit to learn and record one of the songs.

This is the same recording I submitted the last year when La Gitanita was an option. I wanted to fix it for this month’s but college doesn’t really leave time to record anymore.Looks like the only votes are going to either Sound of Silence or When You Wish Upon a Star… so I’ll give Kids a vote. 🙂
Thank you Andrew for your video! I hadn’t realized that I’d added extra beats to the end of the break down. I will definitely continue working on it. Thank you for putting the time in to analyze the recording 🙂
I’m unable to recreate a feel I see used a lot by Taimane and Jake.
It’s a technique where the thumb nail moves very rapidly back and forth over a single string. I’m not sure what it’s called. I tried using a thumb pick, but always got caught on the strings. Is there something I’m doing wrong?

It is a lot less expensive.
The only downside to 8 string ukes are that they are tricky to fingerpick, and barre chords require a bit more pressure. Tuning them a can take a while too.
But they sound great! The sustain is much longer and sounds more full. There is a nice echo effect like the chorus feature on an amp. I love strumming mine, it sounds as if there are other ukuleles playing around me. Plus, they look really cool 🙂
I highly recommend 8 strings, they’re a lot of fun. Taimane has some impressive performances on Youtube using them too.I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
Was able to make a uke schedule for this month! I practiced for 20 minutes a day, three days a week. Happier with this submission than last month’s.

I realized today was the last day of April! I had forgotten to enter this contest, so I quickly recorded A Thousand Years (I learned most of it a year ago), but it isn’t polished.I’ll try to record a cleaner version when I have time.
