becky7777ParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
Used Dream to learn slides, build strength for bar chords, and work on some other stuff since it was a busy month. It isn’t how I’d like it to be and it takes me to my maximum endurance level for my arms so i’ll continue to practice it.
Nat King Cole, Valiente’s bossa nova version, Matt’s version, my friend’s version, and the idea to put a tap dance rhythm or a brushy drum type thing in as percussion was my biggest influences on why I might be sounding a bit crazy playing it. I don’t think I quite nailed jazz..
Everyone’s entries are so great this month! You all are Amazing!
becky7777ParticipantWelcome jina! Congrats on your new ukulele too!
My personal thoughts: If you decide to swap to low G there are some songs that just don’t work. (It goes both ways) Some songs even if they are written for high g are not too difficult to make work though! It kind of depends how familiar you are with where the high g notes actually are on the fretboard and what’s going on in the song. (For me at least… I’m getting better at knowing where stuff is, but it’s slow for me, and I can only make simple changes right now.)
If you plan on playing a lot of both high g and low G songs i’d say string your main uke with whatever you plan to play more (or the one you like the sound of more) and make your soprano the opposite, or buy another uke if you really dislike your buzzy soprano to have both like you said.
If you were planning on swapping soon, hold off until next month’s challenge songs are announced so you don’t go insane making changes to play them. (The one you may want to try could be one of those songs that is either really hard to change or just doesn’t work.) There aren’t very many songs on here yet that are arranged specific for low G, so for songs, just keep that in mind.
Anyway those are just my personal feelings on it. Hope that helps. 🙂
becky7777ParticipantLisa-
So am I, plugging away on ukulele that is. Learning how to do everything else is actually for my uke playing too. Since I don’t plan on ever playing in front of anyone else but rockclass or my friend who plays, It’s actually inspiring for me to have a way to play more with the stuff I do make. 😁
Grats on the movable chord shapes breakthrough too btw! It will help your composition tons!!!!
Can’t sleep, I should see if I can get my challenge entry recorded. Everyone’s entries are so inspiring and fun.

becky7777ParticipantKanae- You stole MY ending G something chord! I think.. –Oh wait, it’s not an Ed Sheeran song so it’s ok! 😉 (The lawsuit.. Bad joke… Anyway!)
Great entries everyone!

becky7777ParticipantLaurakarr12-
BEAUTIFUL Kanile’a!!!!
I’ve been scattered but if I didn’t type this already, congrats on your first fingerpicking piece!I loved the “It begins”. 😉
becky7777ParticipantRobin- Thanks 💖
becky7777ParticipantNope that wasn’t the lesson. I have no clue.
becky7777ParticipantAndrew did a video with dotted quarters and counting those if that would help?… Can’t for the life of me remember what it was in though right now. Maybe it’s Tu De Que Vas? That’s nagging at me as it might be where? I don’t know though offhand.
I’m adding a short bit of my ‘successful’ counting per last months feedback to the end of this month’s challenge. It’s painful. Counting is soooo hard lol. It really felt good to figure out the actual timing of a thing I added though. Major props to you (all) that can do this magical feat of coordination very musically. I can’t be consciously mindful of timing and play. (Yet I guess?)
becky7777ParticipantWelcome lillybel! If you need anything or have questions just ask! Everyone is really nice here 😁
becky7777ParticipantJen- if your device lets you pinch the screen larger or smaller, you should be able to make the score inside the soundslice frame smaller independently of the main screen and it shows the tabs as they play.

becky7777ParticipantOh crud. My favorite version of Dream isn’t really completely standard and was basing the melody loosely off her singing. (Figured I’d listen to a version I liked to know how it goes)
Going to need to check it against a normal one more carefully now. There seems to be a few different interpretations of the melody though? Just little things like Robin’s where they rest, I think, but crud.
becky7777ParticipantNeat share, Thank you. Bookmarked it for the jig, but Can’t help at all with timing it.
April 8, 2019 at 2:45 pm in reply to: Good Video on classical technique if anyone is into that. #26351
becky7777ParticipantLOL! Ignore the nails Ricky! It doesn’t help the guy’s last name is Hand I suppose! 😂 And no you don’t need super long nails. That’s probably more a classical guitar thing because of the way the right hand form is.
Being able to hit a ukulele string with nail and flesh does help though if you want a certain sound. Tone? (Which applies to any stringed instrument i’d think.) Nail= crisp bright cold, flesh = warm muted & a kind of muddy?? (Not really muddy.. Don’t know how to describe it.) tone.
Flesh + nail sounds different then just nail, or just flesh. Andrew’s gone over nail/flesh stuff in recent feedback and in different lessons. Basically you don’t need to geek out on it, but it helps add an extra something.
No need to power through the vid either ricky, I think it’s over an hour long, and he plays songs in parts which he uses as examples of stuff. I just posted it because it had a lot of general info that was helpful to me, and made me go: “OH! I have a bad habit” since Andrew can’t fix me with sound samples. lol. (The relaxing thing was really helpful!! If i’m all tense it’s harder to play or concentrate and that wasn’t obvious to me.)

becky7777ParticipantThis is not a q for the live stream. Just a reply more to Stiny’s #2.
Stiny- Just sharing a silly thing I do sometimes. This isn’t really ‘fun’ either, but here.. (There’s at least two names for this btw. ‘Trills’ is the first name I found though, so it’s the term I use. The other is more common but I blanked out on the name…)
I line up and fret my left hand fingers on the A string one fret apart (half steps) then do a series of quick hammer-on / pull-offs (5? Or whatever you want. I just made that number up.) on each finger. Some of my fingers are more coordinated at this then others lol. I SHOULD probably should set a metronome on slow and do the 5 on each metronome beat to be more ‘correct’ about it with timing like anything musical related…
Example: Start with pinky then remove it after its run, then do the next until you’re doing pointer to open string. Either (/and) go back up on the same string, or move everything to the E string etc. and repeat to get the feel of doing it on each string.
Other then pretty ornamentation, it can be used to sustain a note..? Past when your uke is fading the note out if you want. You would need to research deeper for better “tech specs” on the technique if you want. It probably has different rules depending on which term you look up too. (Because music needs to be overly complicated and subjective apparently lol.)

becky7777ParticipantStianukulele – I could be wrong here, but it’s the rockclass arrangements, otherwise it could get out of hand really REALLY easy in SO many ways.
(I’m NOT speaking for Andrew though! -I wouldn’t dare do that! It’s just my assumption, just basically saying “I doubt it”, but with 100x too many words, like usual.)
