@andrew thanks for listening and for your encouragement. Some of the hesitations were just that I had not memorized it that well yet and one was that I had been practicing it wrong quite a bit and had only just realized it and had to change what I had been doing. It is getting smoother with more practice. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone your secret technique for buzz 😄🎸

I chose the Cielito Lindo which is a bit of a stretch for my skills, but really love it so wanted to give it a try. Posting now but am hoping that it will continue to improve over the next week. Could not get a single recording that doesn’t not have either hesitation or buzzing or both. Having fun trying to learn this one.

@stephen thank you for listening to my post. I am glad you liked my alternative to the 3rd section. I tried to at least keep a couple of the techniques: moved up and down the fret board and used a harmonic. Also thanks for your encouragement to continue working on the last part. I can get the first two fingered mute, but as I move up to the second, and third I seem to apply more pressure with each. I think if I can have more of a sliding motion vs jumping as I move up the fretboard I may be able to get it eventually. So am working on trying to smooth out that motion to see if it does the trick.

Congrats @uku241. Nice reward for a great performance that looked like you had a lot of fun doing

Though I tried, I could not get the muted fingering in the third part of Drunken Sailor. Am very impressed with those who have accomplished that. Anyway, because of this I tacked on my own little ending. @Matt and @Anndrew, I hope you don’t mind but thought it might be better than an abrupt ending after part two. Not sure if this will count or not but here is my Drunken Sailor

I wish I had a ‘set list’ my memory is just not that great. I find myself memorizing for the monthly challenge and within a few weeks of the challenge being over, I have forgotten it. That being said there are a couple that I tend to like to play and keep somewhat in memory. I tend to alway give go the Tarrega Etude in E minor , Saint James Infirmary and Stairway to heaven. I am also partial to Red is the Rose but don’t play it as frequently and have to pull out the music to review

@stephen thank you for listening to my submission (I am reluctant to call it a performance at this point). Your time and comments are very much appreciated. I have tried playing with more emphasis on the triplet strum. It took me a little practice to get the amount of control for just the right amount. I like it to stand out but not seem like a punch to the face or abrupt assault on the ears. I think I got it and like it much better than my post. Thanks for the suggestion 😀

Not much time for me this month. I have chosen the 009 mini lesson one fingered etude. What I love about this etude is how well it lends itself to individual feel and interpretation. Some people going with a faster pace that is more upbeat, some going more moderate and a display of steady rhythm. For me, what seemed natural was slow with some rubato and sound variation and note accents. To me it is a haunting kind of tune. Anyway, I hope I accomplished that in the limited time I had to devote to it.

@andrew thanks for the tips. I favor picking over strumming. At the beginning of the year I had set a goal of improving my strumming. I started Matt’s strumming coarse. Then when I got my finger injury stopped. Started back with the monthly challenges and never went back to working on the strumming class. So your advice on this is a great nudge to get me back to that (it covers the rasgueado). As always thanks so much for these lessons and challenges.

Oh the misfortune of posting after @brettboy. He is always so wonderful and a hard act to follow

This month I tried to spike up my rhythm. Here is my attempt at concept lesson ep010. This one was very challenging for me, but at the same time, soooo much fun.

@andrew thank yo so much. I had a couple of hesitant points in that recording that I wish I had not had. As for the tone, I think that is more because of the beautiful uke I won right here at rockclass101, but I do appreciate your
kind words as well as these fabulous songs you write or arrange for us.

One of the unfortunate outcomes of my broken finger is that my ring finger is tending to overlap my pinky and they kind of get in each others way. I have started back with beginner’s tunes and am trying to adapt. I have been working on etude 32, but don’t think I will have it. Here is mt attempt at Etude #1 instead.

The broken and cracked fingers in my left hand came out of the splints about a week ago. Fingers and joints are stiff, sore, weak and very uncoordinated. I feel all my progress over the last two years is gone. But hopefully playing uke will help me rehab. So this was a double challenge for me because of new left hand challenges plus I normally use the three finger picking style. So, right hand challenge too. I have not yet taken the classical class, but here is my attempt at Danse Paysanne

I missed January challenge due to broken finger/hand injury. Thought that once I am out of the splint and rehabbing my fingers that playing might help. Right now my fingers are curving odd directions when bent so don’t know how well playing will go in the future. So, I bought a relatively inexpensive soprano thinking the string tension might be less, and stretch may be less and I can ease back into things. Well it arrived sooner than I thought (before getting out of the splint) and I could not resist. So, here is my version of “Navigating the Fretboard”—-“With One Finger”
