ParticipantI did something similar this past year. I started the year with a plan to improve strumming by working through the advanced strumming course with final Crossing Hemispheres. Was a wonderful journey, but took well over a month. I fear my goal set this January may also, but it fits well with the January challenge. I love Ed Sheeran and his tunes use different percussive techniques. My goal is to learn to tap a backbeat while playing a melody. I will practice this technique using @andrew’s exercises for ‘tapping backbeat plus melody simultaneously’. I will attempt to learn ‘Perfect’. Also, I consider myself to be seasoned beginner/ budding intermediate.

ParticipantThat’s really great that you were able to present this prize in person. Congratulations @joe150. Looking forward to your future performances on that little beauty.

Participant@andrew and all teachers, thank you so much for listening, giving constructive comments and encouragement over the last year. This year was more difficult for me than even my first year. The support and inspiration from everyone in this group helped me to push through hand/finger break and not give up. I noticed a couple of others who experienced similar issues and kept going. Music brings me so much joy and I am so thankful for the opportunity to participate in this wonderful group. Wishing all joy and peace. Keep strumming and picking!!!

I chose Have Yourself a merry Little Christmas. So much fun to learn this one. I have enjoyed all submission, as always, everyone does wonderfully on these challenges. Regardless of what you may be celebrating this season, or even if you are not celebrating at all, I wish you all joy and peace.
@andrew I tried to donate to the ukulele kids club, but their page would not load. I will try again later and let you know when I have been successfulDecember 2, 2023 at 10:22 pm in reply to: Participate in the November 2023 Member Challenge – WIN $935 Kanile’a #59686ldarrow
Participant@andrew thank you for your confidence in me and my attempts at more difficult songs. This years progress has be frustrating for me. After my left hand finger injuries earlier in the year, I feel my progress has slowed. My fingers have not yet reached full strength; plus, my ring finger healed such that it curves toward and over my little finger making some things difficult. I continue to try to adjust and build strength, but it has affected how i feel about my abilities. Your kind words and confidence mean a lot. Thank you.

I love Always with me from Spirited Way. Though it is above my skill level, I chose to give it a try. There were many frustrating moments when I said “this is impossible for me’ and considered changing songs. But, figured if I don’t push myself, I will never improve. I don’t regret staying with it, but I am sorry to all who listen for such a horrible entry. I have played it better than this , but this was the best I could do recording. Still needs a great deal of work and I enjoy this song so much I think I may continue with it

ParticipantLearning Morning Dew brought some much needed peace and calm to a stressful October. Thank you for this etude @andrew. Additionally brought much needed work on hammer-ons and pull-offs. I see where I tugged abut too much (and it wasn’t even a HO or PO). Loved this etude. Good luck to all throughout this 3 month challenge. Looking forward to listening to everyone.

Participant@misterbones is the uke you are playing
a cedar bird or is it a moon bird and lighting making it look like cedar bird? I have been eyeing the cedar bird and am thinking that I would like to get one eventually. If yours is the cedar, how do you like it? What are your thoughts on it? Would you purchase again?September 30, 2023 at 4:47 pm in reply to: Participate in the September 2023 Member Challenge: WIN Ortega Ukulele! #58877ldarrow
Participant@andrew that you for taking the time to create a video lesson for me. Yes, that section on my performance does sound very staccato-y. I have managed to smooth it out a little bit. I had to slow it down a tad to accomplish that. I have looked up , but not contacted, a luthier in my city. I am a bit worried that they my not be able to lower the strings as it already looks very close to touching at the first fret (but VERY high at the higher frets). But, am willing to call and get an experts evaluation. I am wondering, in your opinion, while this is being done, are there different strings that might help? Current are Aquila nylagut.(spelling?) if so, I could also request that he switch my strings. Also, please do not include me in this months drawing. I saw that @leb397 commented on how much she liked this months prized and that she would like a tenor. I’d like to improve her odds of winning.

ParticipantHere is my summertime swing. I tried this on my tenor, which I do not play often. It was my first ukulele; a gift from my daughter that actually got me interested in playing. It is lovely and means a lot to me because it was from her. However, I struggle playing it vs my concert. The strings are so much more difficult to press. But it does sound better at the upper frets so thought I would give it a try for summertime swing.
