robinboydParticipantThanks guys.
No I didn’t work it out. It’s from the tabs for the arrangement that @suddardnotstuddard linked to in their thread. (here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcHGhK3Rtzk). There is a link to a website where you can sign up for the tabs. Note that it’s in a different key because he plays with a capo on the 4th fret and the guitalele is tuned equivalent to a capo of the 5th fret. I would have detuned the guitalele to match, but I’ve already detuned the low A 2 semitones to match his odd tuning. The tabs say to tune the guitar DADGBE, which works out to GDGCEA on the guitalele. Anyway, because of this, what is now the (very) low G string feels kind of floppy and I didn’t want to detune it any further.
Also, if I had worked this out, I wouldn’t have done the weird thing with the time signatures. I really appreciate its brilliance, but there is no way I would think to do it.

robinboydParticipantI haven’t had any experience, but if I had an 8-string, I think it would mainly be for strumming. Maybe try a guitalele for an extra finger-picking challenge?

robinboydParticipant@nitsur – Long nails would affect your left hand form, but not your right. I’ve also been pulled up for poor right hand form in the past and I don’t think nails have anything to do with it.

robinboydParticipantWell, I’ve already started learning Better Together, so I suppose that’s the one I’ll be doing.
Tiffany was really hoping Jurassic Park would be an option this month, but might try Tonight You Belong to Me even though she isn’t keen on that Kazoo part.
Edit: Tiffany says if she plays the “beginner version” of the outro, then Wipeout looks perfectly achievable. The only really tricky bit is the percussion.

robinboydParticipantI’d just like to thank Andrew and Stephen again. I’m amazed at how you guys manage to give carefully considered and individualised advice for every entry, even when the entries start pouring in at the end of of the month. It’s nothing short of awe-inspiring.

robinboydParticipantWe’re doing our best. I’m doing John’s part and Tiffany is doing Paul’s part, but my singing keeps throwing her off. I made a video of myself playing and singing for her to practice with, but it’s taking a long time. I have no idea when or if it will be ready.

robinboydParticipantFWIW, when I’m 64 was deceptively hard.

robinboydParticipant@surfnrz – Wow, you actually managed to sing it in the original key. I’m really impressed.

robinboydParticipant@rickymike – Lol. You still sung along with the filler bit! Great persistence, though.

robinboydParticipant@hotmilktea – That was beautiful. Tiffany and I really need to get our act together and record this one (not for the challenge, but just because it’s an awesome song). It has been a little bit neglected this month.

robinboydParticipant@planetfink – Nice one. Cute dog too.
robinboydParticipant@lisadmh – Not at all. I’m loving learning Jenny of Oldstones on the guitalele, Tiffany is still working on When I’m 64, and we are still working on the harmonies for because (although that is taking a whole lot longer than I expected).
@kanae926 – I’m the same. I need to take those courses very very slowly or I get overwhelmed. I’m better off learning the songs that I want to learn and referring back to the courses from time to time. That’s why I quickly stopped doing 1 on 1 lessons. It just made me feel bad about myself.May 27, 2019 at 2:48 am in reply to: Participate in the May 2019 Member Challenge – 2nd Chance to WIN a Kanile’a! #27589
robinboydParticipantYou’ll get there Becky. It just takes time. It wasn’t that long ago that I was struggling to get any sound at all with natural harmonics and now I’m trying to pick out a melody entirely with artificial harmonics!
robinboydParticipantWell, this is just off the top of my head but as you don’t want to mess up the finish (quite sensibly), you might want to think about putting something over it. Have you tried masking tape, either on the neck or on your thumb? I have no idea if it would work, but it’s what I would try.
