robinboydParticipantTry plucking the middle two strings fretting 2 on the C string and 4 on the E string.

robinboydParticipantThanks @hotmilktea. I think half the issue with the wrist was the camera angle. It made it look much worse than it really was. I’ve started shooting headless, which makes the wrist issue much less prominent.

robinboydParticipantHi Marni,
I actually thought I had posted that I had solved the issue (exactly how you suggested) about 5 minutes after my first post, but it didn’t seem to work. I must be having computer issues.
Robin
robinboydParticipantThat’s pretty awesome!

robinboydParticipantThanks Andrew. I’ll keep that in mind. I’ve just been practicing that bit over and over and I’ve been finding that my form is inconsistent, so I’ll try to get the correct form consistently from now on.
Interesting that you picked up on that point because I think that’s also where my fingering differs from Katie’s.
Also, the uke is actually a small-bodied concert. (It was sold as a concert and has more room on the fretboard than Tiffany’s soprano.) I find soprano ukes to be a bit constrictive.

robinboydParticipantHi Andrew,
I just tried to download the tabs for Dream a Little Dream, and it just directs me to the “sign up for membership page.” That would make sense if I was logged out, but I’m logged in. Please check this.

robinboydParticipantHere is my entry for this month. I have a few disclaimers.
1. I did a lot of tour guide work this month, so I spent more than half the month away from home. I took a uke and a printout of the tabs with me, but I didn’t get to watch the video much, so I’m pretty sure my fingering is a bit different to Katie’s.
2. Even so, I’m not happy with the standard I got this to, particularly as it’s still morning here and I haven’t cleaned the cobwebs out of my throat and hands. I just need another few days to get it right!
3. There is a major stuff up in there where I totally forgot what I was supposed to play so I just strummed and hoped for the best.
4. Those high notes are really really hard!
5. I really like the second verse, so I included that too.
robinboydParticipantThat is absolutely beautiful!
robinboydParticipantI’m sorry to hear that. We are thinking of you from the other side of the world.

robinboydParticipantLol, don’t warn us about April 1st. That just spoils the fun!
I love the pics of the uke though. I didn’t realise you had milo back and sides on it. It looks a whole lot nicer than my milo uke, which caused me all sorts of trouble (worked out ok in the end, though).

robinboydParticipant@brettboy – that sounds great on the baritone.
@hotmilktea – don’t stress about the singing. If I get over my cold in the next few days, you’ll get to laugh at me trying to hit those high notes. (Otherwise, I might have to get Tiffany to fill in).
robinboydParticipant@rickeymike – yep, they made it out of some old floorboards, some bits of dowel, and some irrigation pipe for padding.
robinboydParticipantNo worries. I’ve more or less memorised the picking and I was using the chord sheet for lyrics, but I found the lack of an F chord a bit distracting 😉
robinboydParticipantAnother update: I decided the Oasis Warms on my mango uke were getting a bit worn, so I put Aquila Reds back on it. I have to say, I love the feel and the tone of the Reds.
Unfortunately, I just realised that Uke Republic sent me the wrong strings, though. They sent Lavas instead of Carbon Blacks. I didn’t realise because the packaging looks so similar and I didn’t look too closely when they first arrived (I imagine they made the mistake for the same reason). That’s disappointing.
