    Hi Uke Stars!

I’ll get the pineapple rolling this month by sharing my September 2018 video of Pineapple Uke Blues. I’ll also try to learn Ain’t No Sunshine by the end of this month.

thanks Stephen for the great advice. I do need to keep grinding on that solo. I can do perfectly at 3/4 speed when looking at the tab… so I’m still a long way off from where I’d like to be!

Aloha Rockstars! I hope you’re all doing well! This month I took on Bodysurfing. It was a ton of fun. After 17 days of regular practice I actually learned the parts pretty well but putting them together in one video is challenging. I’m a complete amateur when it comes to recording and I don’t have great equipment (I make all my videos using imovie on a 9 year old imac and a 4 year old iphone). This is this tightest recording I could get. I know the solo falls apart in places and the outro got sloppy buy I’m still quite happy with it.

I play uke in a little trio (with guitar and percussion) if we’re ever able to practice together again I’m totally going to teach them this song. (pandemic. sigh. someday. sign) Big Thanks to Andrew and Evan. These uke challenges really help me keep some sanity as we all keep our distance from each other. I hope you like my video. Please leave a comment and/or hit the like button!

Hi Greg. I’m a uke lover, in SE Seattle. I also teach uke, youtube uke, and play uke in a little jazzy trio. We have a ukulele club down here in SE Seattle too. Looking forward to the day when music can be face to face again instead of over a screen. But this is the best place to learn. I’ve been a big fan and supporter of Andrew and RC101 for a few years now. I’ve learned SO much.

Hello Uke-Stars! I took on the Moonlight Sonata Excerpt this month. It was a perfect challenge for me and helped me keep some mental balance during this awful global pandemic. Here’s my best attempt to record it. I know there’s a couple slightly sloppy transitions but all in all it sounds quite good to me. I love being part of this community and watching everyone’s entry! Happy Strumming Friends!

    Happy Uke-In Everyone!
This month I took on the Clawhammer course (but I tossed in a few harmonics at the end just for fun). The course was excellent. Thank You Christopher Davis-Shannon!

Hi Uke Stars! For this month’s original music challenge I put the finishing touches on a little jam called “labyrinth walk” that I’ve been working on for some time.

If you like Labyrinth Walk you may also like to hear some of these other original compositions on my youtube: laundry day, meal plan, sundial, santa and the goat, ★ Kallisto ★, Luna’s Theme (cute hamster luna), eagle, crow, junk yard dog, sea hag, evergreen, i break spells, hosehead in the imperial garden (actually those last few are guitar tunes).

Happy Strumming everyone! I love to watch everyone’s video each month!

Kudos to all of you Uke-Stars !!!!! There are so many Awesome Posts so far this month. I Love it!! And thanks everyone for the kind words about my blue blue blue video.

Andrew I totally see and hear ya. I knew the solo started on beat two but I messed up while editing my video. I’m actually not great at video editing (most of the cool editing stuff you’ll find in my videos is actually just “happy accidents”). If I find time I’ll try to re edit.

    Thanks!

Hi Uke Friends! I went for Bohemian Rhapsody. I’ve averaged about an hour of practice on this epic tune everyday this month. I used my baritone because I don’t have a low G uke. The larger neck on the bari made for some hard stretch chords! There were times when I thought I’d never be able to play the entire piece but after a couple weeks things actually started to fall in to place just enough to give me some hope. This tune was harder for me then Danse Macabre and Moon put together! Next came recording it… I tried so many times to get a good take but I never captured the accuracy and emotion I was getting during practice. I’d give this attempt I posted today a B+. A few of the hesitations and sloppy transitions make me cringe but I was so excited to see the neighbor’s cat come to the window at the end of the video to say hello! That’s how I knew I was done and that I was never going to be able to play it any better with a camera in my face. I hope you like it. Huge thanks to Evan and Andrew. I feel such a sense of accomplishment. This tune holds a lot of meaning to me and many people and as a ukulele player it feels like a kind of “leveling up” of sorts. pretty cool 🙂

    Thanks Stephen!
I can hear what you’re saying. I love playing it blistering pace but the timing gets more “improvisational (re: “sloppy”) and I hit odd notes or play things out of order. But I recently reached a point where if I play the arrangement at 1/2 speed I can totally keep the beat steady throughout including all the transitions. I will keep grinding on it because I want this one to stick in my long term memory.

Hi Friends! Here is “Dummy Brett” playing Danse Macabre! This song is up there with Taimane’s Moon as the hardest tune I’ve ever tried to learn. I’ve spent countless hours this month grinding away at the piece and decided I was ready to hit record. I’d give this recording (my best attempt of MANY) a B+ for speed and a B- for accuracy. Huge thanks to Andrew and Evan!!! Happy Halloween everyone!

Wha?!!? I was chosen! again?!?! WOW!
I really love the Islander that I won back in the February challenge.
This uke is a “mystery” right?
After it arrives I will show it off in a Youtube video.
I’ve never won anything in all my 38 years… and now I’ve won two ukes in one year!
    Viva Rockclass101 ! ! !
