Hi Andrew! I really appreciate the great work you do! Awesome prize for this lighting round too!!!

My question is: Some Uke-Masters (like Jake and Taimane, among others) have AMAZING right hand technique that I find mesmerizing. They can play so fast, smooth and percussive. I’m an upper-intermediate level player in regards to chords, scales and finger-picking but I feel very weak regarding speed and rhythm. I am having a hard time finding resources on youtube. What do you recommend I practice to improve my right hand speed and rhythm??

    Thanks Harold and Andrew!

We both grew up listing to all kinds of music but mostly to indie-rock, punk and rock. Tyree and I both have a lot of influences from those genres (modest mouse is a particularity big one for both of us). We also love bjork and portishead among others that inspire us! This project was also inspired by Rodrigo y Gabriella and Industrial Revelation.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I see what you saying Andrew. When I get to theme 4 (measure 25) my left thumb does not want to stay behind the next. But I can see how I’d probably get more control and fumble less during the walk up parts if I can retrain my hand.

Hi Ukulele Friends. I’ve been learning Ukulele Boogie this month. It’s tricky but it’s really fun to play! I can now play it slow and accurate or fast and sloppy. It’s far from perfect but here is my best attempt at playing it both fast and accurate!

Hi Andrew! Wonderful theme this month. I’ve been working on your Frosty the Snowman arrangement for a while now and today I’m ready to toss my hat in the ring. I made a couple of detours from your original but I think it still features all the parts and style points that you tried to teach. (Let me know if I’m wrong ’bout that!) Thanks!

Over the last ~3 years I’ve watched a lot of Taimane on youtube and someday I’d really love to see her perform live. She’s got incredible ukulele skills, talent, speed and technique… but beyond all that she’s got so much natural artistry and great energy.

Hello Taimane! (I really love your music!) Here’s my question: What are a few of the very first songs, written by other composers, that you decided to really master, and why did you choose those particular songs?
    Thank you!

    Hi Andrew,
I had a question about the rules. The video you posted above and the written rules above contradict. In your video at ~1:45 you say participants must record “the entire song” and at ~2:00 you say “the song start to finish.” But your written “ground rules for participation” above do not specifically require that the entire etude be recorded to qualify for the drawing. To the contrary, those rules say: “So if you are a beginner and can only play the first couple of measures. That is completely ok.” My question is this: do you plan to include participants who only posted part of their chosen etude in your random drawing? Thanks.

Hi Andrew! Thanks for the fun challenge! I chose Etude No.2. After 2 weeks of nonstop practicing and nearly 30 rejected video takes I’m ready to share my best attempt! Here it is:
