Hi Andrew. I’m having problems with I’m Yours.

First, I see lots of single string x that I don’t understand or hear. E.g. bar 2 after the second slap. What’s that?

Then, the double slaps are stumping me. E.g. bar 19. It looks like you’re doing a chuck on the way down but how do you get it sounding like that on the way up?

I’m actually finding Fur Elise easier, although I’m only at about 30 % speed on it…

    Thanks for the help!

Andrew, interesting. I wouldn’t have clued into an action problem unless they were six inches too high. Thanks for pointing it out. Does that make it sound out of tune to you?

I actually like the bit of lift for the plucking hand as it’s easier to grab the strings. Is that bad? Should i get it fixed?

It’s just from the local music store, Long & McQuade. They have a good reputation around here and should be able to help if needed.

Recording anxiety gets to me every time. Not my best or fastest but after a gazillion takes, this will do. Feedback welcome. I know I struggled with the outro. Thanks!

Hi! What’s your favorite song that’s beginner – early intermediate friendly? (E.g., Level 1 here)

And can you convince Andrew to arrange it for us? 😀

Through Adam’s Family, you’ve taught me to play staccato. Very cool, as now I understand why I’ve been getting annoying inappropriate staccatos in Ode to Joy. I’m working on fixing that.

Thanks for aother great challenge. I hope to move up to Stranger Things, but we’ll see how I do. Adam’s family is trickier than it looks.

Ok. So my next goal for myself is to start to learn how to relax my left wrist. I’m rock solid at the wrist. It’s really getting sore and hampering me.

I will consciously relax on my easiest songs, playing super slowly. The beginner’s blues and my first song, and in the hall of the mountain king, as initial exercises. When i get that down I’ll move to songs i can play but that take a little more effort, because i need to read the sheets – aura lee and ode to joy. The next step will be my hardest song, waimanalo blues, and if i can the halloween challeng song I’ll be learning from scratch.

I have a feeling this will be slow but it’ll be worth it.

Update by the end of the month and beyond.

Congratulations vidafntn! I hope you enjoy your lesson.

Andrew, do we get a new accountability thread or do we keep using this one outside of the contest? I already have my next accountability challenge for myself.

***Andrew (and others) please don’t share this video anywhere. Way too embarrassing. I’m just messing around.

Lily, this one is for you. Forgive the terribleness. I’m just beginning to learn it.

Thanks Andrew! I’ll work on my chill. Maybe the constant metronome in my head needs to lighten up a tad. I think my next effort will be to loosen up my left wrist. Maybe that’ll help everything flow a bit better.

And maybe I’ll take my cheap little uke in my suitcase. Can’t be away from my baby for 10 whole days. 😊

It’s a little early but I’m going to be off the grid for the next ten days with no uke.

I feel like I have improved on my back beat, but I think you can see that string 3 still doesn’t ring out great on the pluck after the slap. Am I wrong on that? At least I finally memorized this song, yay!

It’s still far from perfect but I feel okay with this having picked up my first uke only 7 months ago. I do love this song. Thanks Andrew!

And notice my birthday present, a solid mahogany soprano islander? I love, love, love it!

    Feedback very welcome.

This is very cool. I’ll continue with my strum slap pluck thing. I’ll also try very hard to memorize the song from August (W Blues) so I can apply the technique better and actually play the song less horrendously. I’m not happy with that”performance”.
