lisamccParticipantWow – fab challenge and great selection of pieces! I’ve been working on Danse Macabre already – but the notes at the top on a concert uke are REALLY tricky!!! I might see if I can clean it up – but I’m definitely learning sound of silence and sleepwalk too!!! Busy month – bring on the challenge!

lisamccParticipantCool challenge…just working my way through the course….Triplet strum…I have been doing it down, up thumb, up index, which makes the fan very difficult as it builds on down, down, up…Suggestions or should I change triplet technique? Thanks, Lisa
lisamccParticipantJinajupiter – your new uke sounds amazing… you are going to have fun with that! I will do a recording when I’ve learnt it – it’s a lot of fun – I’m on the second page now… I’m needing to take it slow as there are lots of tricky timing bits.
My laptop is just over a year old – and i’ve not had problems with the playalong before – I’m fine with Evan’s version, but not with your version Andrew. It seems to be set up completely differently. Evan’s you can slow down in terms of % – on your version I’m seeing bpm. It’s just tricky because I’m trying to learn your version.

lisamccParticipantLovely playing Abaluyot!
Thank you Rickey! I’m frustrated about the mistakes in the playing…. but couldn’t cope with anymore takes or I would have started to sound like Barry White! Normally I’m fine with the singing – but it took me a while to work out the melody line for this. Loving being part of this group. xxxJune 18, 2019 at 5:17 pm in reply to: Participate in the June 2019 Member Challenge – LAST Chance to WIN a Kanile’a! #28262

Hey everyone – Here is my first ‘session’ at recording ‘better together’… my throat is a bit sore, so if I carry on doing takes, I think I’m going to need a baritone ukulele!
It’s not perfect – the twiddly bits I forgot what I was doing a couple of times – sorry about that – yes I know…. slow down!!!
Even though this is ‘easy’, I really didn’t find it easy. I’m a picker not a strummer, so the slapping and chucking are skills I’m working on. I found the transitions tricky – they seemed like they should have a different rhythm, but they didn’t, so that took a bit to get that smooth. I also found the singing line really challenging – a LOT of words to squeeze in – and squeeze I did, but sometimes my lips were a blur!!!
I really loved the challenge – beautiful song. Thank you Andrew for another fab challenge and for setting up such an awesome community.

lisamccParticipantThanks for your responses @johanna2509 and @robinboyd! I needed some reassurance that it wasn’t just me! Normally I play and sing no worries…. for this, I really feel like I could do with the score for the vocal part too… just to get the right number of words in corresponding to chord changes. I’m normally TERRIBLE with having to do multiple takes so to hit the deadline, I better start now! I love the song though – Jack Johnson just sounds so completely laid back when he does it! Top tip with the humming – going to get humming immediately! 🙂

lisamccParticipantLovely playing so far everyone – well done. I’m working on Better together. I’ve sorted the ukulele part I think, pretty much, but I’m finding fitting the words in REALLY difficult. Some of those sentences are sooooooooo long – and the song is so laidback that it doesn’t sound right if you are trying to get 50 words into a breath! I can play along with Katie and sing just fine, but I am having to listen to her and Jack Johnson original over and over again to try and work out the singing part and how to fit the uke to it. Normally I don’t need the music line to sing over the top, but I’m finding this hard. Is this just me?
lisamccParticipantI’ve had a go on one – LOVED the sound when strumming, but fingerpicking was a bit tricky. However, it sounded like a lute, so for certain pieces of music, it made me sound like I was doing crazy complicated things – which REALLY I wasn’t! A very pleasing illusion! Falling deeply madly in love at first sight – that doesn’t happen often enough in my opinion, and so if we were voting on your purchase, I would definitely go with a yes! (and post a picture/vid if you do!) 🙂

lisamccParticipantThanks Andrew – that’s really helpful. Hopefully with new reinforced bridge – my performance this month will be more up to scratch! 🙂

Hey all – don’t even bother listening to this one…. I’ve had a ukulele disaster month when my bridge completely split – I wasn’t even doing anything rock and roll with it, it was in its case!
So here is my effort at here comes the sun. Ironically, the sun has just come out, so I need to record before I go camping. I got the uke back yesterday, so I have little practice, the pegs now seem to be slipping, and that plus new strings, mean that it’s super-hard to get it into tune for the duration of the piece!
Please forgive! (I’m happy to have my uke back though!)
🙂
lisamccParticipantAwesome lesson, thanks Matt! Lots of great things to work on. I thought I had barre chords sorted – but no!!!! That’s some fantastically freaky finger gymnastics – I already know various songs that I play where those later barre tricks are going to be really handy. Thank you!
lisamccParticipantBecky,
Strings are on and are beautiful. Bending depends on the position. I can get a full semitone on the 5th fret… Harder below there.
They are clear and bright and have made a massive difference to my low G tenor (with the horrible metal wound low G string now replaced!)
My concert with aquilas= I’m not noticing as much of a difference – as it sounded great before.
Hope that helps
Lisa
lisamccParticipantI’ve just got some living strings on order – following the reviews and one of my uke buddies swears by them. I’ll let you know about bending. I’m really excited about them. It’s a bit nuts for a manufacturer not to string their instruments with something that maximises the quality – if you are lucky enough to trial the instruments in a shop, it can put you off.
