Big hugs Kay..tough times…be good to yourself. That’s a lovely thing to do Andrew…Kay does rock. I’m loving the true spirit of Christmas, the wonderful playing and the fact that as a group, we’re going to facilitate a whole load of new players and lift spirits with the world’s happiest little instrument.

Thank you Rickey! It did get a bit choirlike..I was following Katie’s breathing tip of breathing like a dolphin through a small hole in the top of your head..that really helped get the glorias out in one breath but also the visualisation really make me laugh which made me a little less stressed when recording…so a top tip! I’ll work on subbing that Christmas jumper for next time! Thank you for your kind comments and merry Christmas! Lisa

Hey everyone – some lovely playing out there – well done! Here’s my submission – it’s the first time I’ve recorded myself singing ever… sounding a bit deep in parts, but I guess that’s what happens as a high school teacher at the end of term!
    I’m donating $40 to buy a ukulele.
It’s been a wonderful tune filled year – I can’t wait to see what surprises Rockclass 101 is going to bring in the New Year! I’m loving being part of this community – it really does rock.
Have a wonderful festive season everyone

Lovely playing everyone so far – well done!
Quick question – I’m preparing Angels we have heard on high…
Andrew – do you want all 4 verses with a double gloria between each one, or just the first couple of verses,(with all the glorias) like on the playalong…. I was just thinking about my audience of course!
    Thanks,
    Lisa

Thanks Andrew – that’s really kind. I loved playing this tune. I think I get so nervous that I speed up when I record. I try to play the metronome before I record to get the pace into my head… then I just go wild! I’ll do my best to be more consistent. I’m going to try singing and recording this month…hopefully singing will help me keep pace better too. Thanks for your feedback.

Here’s my submission… I’ve tried to add some twiddles in from the video that you attached Andrew.
Thanks for a cool challenge – I love this style of music.

Here’s my October submission. It’s not perfect and I’ve done hundreds of takes and I’m getting worse not better! I had a problem because whilst trying to learn it, I seemed to make up a bit of it and then had real problems ‘unlearning’ that. Also found a couple of those higher changes a bit tricky to get into. Anyway, before I go completely crazy… here it is. There was a crashing thunderstorm whilst I was recording – very halloween!

    Hey Andrew,
Strings…. what strings would you recommend for fingerpicking. I’ve got some uke playing friends who have told me that they changed the strings and it completely changed their instrument. I don’t have a problem with my set up, but maybe there is a sweeter sound out there…….
    Thanks!
    Lisa 😉
(have you tried living water strings?)

Hi Awesomestrings, I had a student who had never played an instrument until he arrived at my school at the time, where he joined the choir and then took up piano and clarinet. He is now a professional musician. It can be done – please don’t stress about time. Rockclass 101 is an incredible resource and will help you progress quickly, but unlike most other things in this crazy hi-tech world, it’s not instant gratification…. although the instructions are super clear, it still takes time to get your fingers around it all and embed techniques into your muscle memory. You need to slow it up, break it down and use the online tab reader – that’s a great strategy. However, I’m concerned that you say that you ‘are practicing more than you enjoy life’…. you have to enjoy the journey and if you are not, you need to change something. I would advise that you choose pieces which are level appropriate (so if you are beginning don’t choose Bach’s Toccata) Record yourself at the start and then daily. You will definitely see progress and that may be more motivating for you. Andrew did a course on learning pathways which you should check out. He has also done loads of etudes working on specific skills…. and also music theory which would be transferable skills. Many of the participants on Rockclass 101 are starting out so you’ve got a supportive network here. If you want to perform and want to perform with others, then you could use the ukulele to build skills and musicality and then later on, look at expanding your instruments, depending on the type of music you want to play (double bass players are always in great demand around here for example, although I love the portability of the uke) I hope that’s even a little useful. Hang in there – and just enjoy your uke and your journey. 😉

Set myself the 17th March to get this one up to speed – still a bit hesitant, but getting there. Lots of fun to play!
    Happy St Patrick’s day everyone!

Thanks Andrew – can’t believe you’ve posted it on Facebook! Thank you. I recorded it when we got sent home because of the snow…. hence looking really cold! It was a fun piece to learn to play 😉

Thank you so much Sheryl for taking the time to write such a nice comment. I really appreciate it and feel very encouraged. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ve really got to handle the nerves better, I just tense up when I switch the computer on… my ‘sliding finger’ ends up with massive indentations! 😉
