    I can’t listen to Habanera without seeing Katarina Witt skating to it at the 1988 Calgary Olympics. I was only little at the time but I recorded it on TV and watched it over and over. So I really wanted to do this one.

    Unfortunately I lost a week due to sickness and am still very shaky now so I’m struggling. I’ll record a perkier and more upbeat version once I am feeling better, but right now I am out of time and need to crawl back into bed. I managed to make it to the end without coughing though so there’s that!

    I would have loved to do Blackbird or Yesterday this month but stuff happened and left me with only two days at the end of the month to learn something, so Yellow Submarine it is! I need more practice to make it cleaner and iron out all the hesitations, but I’m just happy to get an entry in. 🙂

    Thanks for the feedback @Steven. It is the most amazing view for people (and surfer) watching, we even spotted Brian May down there on the esplanade a couple of years ago. Unfortunately not my house though so I am forced to leave every now and then! 🙁
    I did feel like I should be recording Wipe Out not Waltz in C though! Maybe next time…
    I think my “I can turn into a turtle” recording was just a bit less stressed without the hesitation at the end as I panicked about whether or not to mess it all up with a failed harmonic. 😀

    Trying to record this first thing in the morning before the kids wake up and start shouting things like “I can turn into a turtle” in the background like they were doing last night – spoiled my best take that did! I haven’t had a cup of tea yet though so I’m struggling to remember what I’m doing…

    Hoping the view in the background will distract you sufficiently. 🙂

    I skipped last month and broke my nine month streak so I’m going to have to start all over again now! Here’s Jurassic Park as my entry for this month. 🙂

    Thanks for all the lessons! I’m struggling to make this one any smoother by the deadline (my fingers just don’t like that A7 for some reason!) so here’s my Here Comes the Sun:

    Here’s my best Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, done late at night whilst still trying to ice the cake, wrap presents and make a gingerbread house – argh! I’d love to be able to do “Last Christmas” next Christmas!

    And @bethany_guardiani What a lovely idea, that’s so nice of you! Your keychains are awesome, you might just have to show me how to make them! 🙂

    Merry Christmas everyone!

    Thanks @Andrew, I’m not double-jointed but looking online it does seem to be the same problem that a lot of double-jointed players have. I think it’s more anything that requires a stretch rather than specifically barre chords. I found your lesson on increasing left hand reach and tried the first exercise there but my knuckle collapses as soon as my pinky reaches for the 8th fret, I have no control over it. I’ll keep trying and see if it gets any easier. Like you say, I think I need to train it to stay rounded rather than letting it collapse. I actually just found a suggestion online where you squeeze a clothes peg between your rounded pinky (with third finger for support if necessary) and thumb to strengthen it – I might give that a go too (once it has recovered from the Etude, it’s feeling a bit sore right now!) Thanks @kirpuff and @debb1985 for the encouragement too, it’s promising that you have worked through it and come out the other side! 😊

    @robinboyd Ouch! Yet you play beautifully so there’s still hope for the rest of us with pinky problems!

    @ldarrow
    Yes I can see it happen to you at the 55 second and 1:17 mark of this month’s video, but you play on nicely. Nice to know it’s not just me. Here’s a wee snippet of how bad mine gets, every time I stretch my pinky it gets stuck straight until I get a chance to wriggle it. Then there’s a particularly nasty collapse at 31 seconds that completely throws me from there on!

    @Andrew
    Thanks for the link. I seem to be fine as long as I can keep my pinky bent so that exercise is do-able. Do you think more strength will eventually stop the knuckle collapsing like in the video above? Fingers crossed (except for the one we’re talking about which is currently banished to the naughty corner!) 🙂

    Phew, that was close! But I think I made it, right? Bit of a panic at the end there. 🙂
    So I’ve been having issues with my little finger collapsing and locking in a straight position on this one (which is one of the reasons I couldn’t do Come As You Are a few months ago!) Any tips on how to strengthen it so the knuckle doesn’t lock?

    I thought I’d try the clawhammer course this month. It was definitely a challenge, I couldn’t hit any of the right strings to start off with. But it was fun and my kids thought I was learning from Superman so that was a bonus. 😀

    Here’s Cornbread and Butterbeans.

    Using up every last minute of practice time just like I always do! Here’s Fingerpicking Etude no. 25: “Morning Dew”. 🙂
