yukaleleParticipantHi Andrew,
I forgot to donate! So I’ve corrected that and sent $50 via the non-us charity, ref RC101.
Have a great holiday season.

No time this month so I picked the shortest one… which did not turn out to be the easiest!November 29, 2025 at 2:49 pm in reply to: Participate in the November 2025 Member Challenge – WIN $2,250 Kanile’a Uke #77610

When I saw La Gitanita I had to do it because I first learnt this in July 2020 and I wanted to see how I had improved since then. The answer is a fair bit – so thank you Andrew!!
Apologies for the missing fingers, but I had to use my phone to do the recording and forgot how narrow the screen is…

Here’s my attempt at Duality.
I liked the story behind this composition and of course Evan makes it sound beautiful. I spent most of the month trying to master the accompaniment, but I couldnt get the Cmaj bar code shape at any speed (the minor was easier, but also slow), so I switched to the lead at the last minute – hence a bit unrehearsed.
Thanks for yet another great monthly challenge!

yukaleleParticipantThanks Andrew, I really appreciated your comment. It’s been such fun getting this far with Ukuleke under the guidance of RC101!
@Joe150
You asked for tabs to Blackbird. I never expected that request and I’m honoured!I haven’t a clue how to do this other than pen and paper, but I’ll have a go. If I manage, on which forum should I post it?

yukaleleParticipantHere is my own arrangemernt of Blackbird.
I have worked on the arrangement and made it cleaner – not my playing mind you!

yukaleleParticipantIn May 23 I played Andrew’s proper version of Blackbird and found it difficult in places.
Over Christmas and January this year I worked on trying to adapt the version I used to play on guitar back in the, er, past…
The guitar seems like a monster now I play Uke and my hand seems tiny!
Anyway, here are my two versions.
Andrew’s May 2023
yukaleleParticipantIt’s how I used to play it on the guitar, which wasn’t all my own work, but reworked by me for 4 strings.

yukaleleParticipantHi @Kanique, that was really nice, thank you.
I’m contemplating a second go at this, along with 20 others!, for the March 25 challenge.
Now I’m musical score dyslectic so rely on the tabs, but I do try to look at the score and I am getting better…
However, I’m confused by the score on Soundslice for St Jame’s Infirmary. The notes seem to be an octave too high?
Am I missing something or just being stupid?

yukaleleParticipantHi everyone,
This month I chose Magic Waltz. Clearly this is too difficult for me, but I just fell in love with the tune – particularly after looking at several versions on YouTube, and here.
The first problem is that I just can’t remember it well enough to play the whole way through – so I’ve cheated and stitched together separate attempts at each melody to make one video. The joins are fairly obvious! (If that disqualifies me from the competition, that’s OK too.)
Second problem – it’s just too darn fast! OK, so I’ll try at 75% speed, but even then some of the changes defeated me.
Oh well, you gotta try these things…

yukaleleParticipantHi Everybody
I used this challenge to motivate me in getting to grips with Claw Hammer. Ive always found this difficult and have given up every time before getting anywhere.
I used Christophers excellent course this time (only discovered it this month!) and my goal was to play the Claw Hammer Etude, no matter how badly…
Well, I succeeded in playing it very badly, so I’ll score that as success.
Practice was the issue; not enough or consistently – but now I have got over the hurdle of actually getting the basics I will keep this up.
PS – I had a great excuse this month. I have been gifted a second grandson, a brother to my granddaughter!
