Well, it had to be “All I Want For Christmas” this month. The only trouble was you are asking me to sing – which is not a pretty thing to behold.
Oh well – here goes!
Happy Holidays everyone, whatever your faith…

yukaleleParticipantHi Andrew,
I’ve donated $50 to the UKC on their website, referencing RC101.
Great cause and I’m proud to be part of your support group.

Hi everyone. This month I went for Luigi’s Mansion. More difficult that it looked at first glance… (I must start practicing earlier in the month!)

yukaleleParticipantHi Andrew,
Thanks for your valuable feedback. You commented on the pull-offs and I do have some problems with these. I will keep working on the lacrimosa, doing what you suggest, because it’s such a nice melody.
Many thanks,
David.-

Apologies for the poor quality of the sound (and playing!) – mic went wonky.
I tried all of them this month; they were all good, particularly Stranger Things. But I couldn’t resist the Mozart arrangement – more fool me, because getting a smooth single take for the whole thing seems to be impossible, I just keep going wrong somewhere. Difficult to learn by heart for my aged brain.
PS – Loved the cats!!

yukaleleParticipantThank you for your feedback Andrew. Your comments before have certainly helped my left hand technique and I now find I’m able to tackle harder pieces badly!
Also, I am focusing on timing and getting through – ignoring mistakes. Is that a good, or is it better to sacrifice timing (and fun) for accuracy?

Hi,
I went for the 50’s R&B this month. It’s a great little piece, wonderfully written and orchestrated by Andrew – thanks!
Having said that, I hope you can bear listening to my murdering of it.
PS -Notice I’m playing on my Flight!

Well, I’ve had a bad month. Started off with Habana, but then I got Covid. Got over that and then burned my hand left badly, particularly the thumb, meaning I couldn’t hold the neck properly (see it in the video!).
Determined to win the big prize, so I’ve rushed through an entry for Hall of the Mountain King.
Thought I’d try both parts, so if you’re up for a laugh, look at this:
As usual, really great arrangements and brilliant entries. Thanks again RC101 !

yukaleleParticipantAndrew,
Thank you so much for your constructive feedback. You advise that I pay more attention to highlighting the melody. Listening back to my piece, I certainly can see what you mean!
I’ve gone back to blackbird and in trying to follow your advise, it’s better, but there is so much to concentrate on!
Anyway, much appreciated you taking so much time to provide me and others such valuable feedback.

All the arrangements this month are fantastic. I was there when the originals came out…!
I chose Blackbird this month and it took the first two weeks just to get the hang of the rhythms. Thank you Andrew for a very comprehensive lesson.
For some reason, I keep wanting to go fast – I think it’s because the original is so familiar, it’s hard to slow it down in your mind. Anyway – here is my effort.

Wow! a $6,000 Ukulele! How on earth would I do that justice. Just shows how respected RC101 is to get that kind of sponsorship.
Last month Andrew gave me some great lessons on my positioning and left hand. Been working hard on that and YES, its beginning to make a difference, things are easier!
Minuet in G/C this month so far. I found playing in time with the bass very difficult. Either fluffed through errors or I gradually sped up. Got it eventually.
Now to try Andante…

yukaleleParticipantAndrew,
I can’t thank you enough for this feedback. I have spent the morning going through your lesson and videos.
I seem to have acquired quite a few bad habits, but by concentrating of the correct positioning of the Uke and my hands, I can already feel an improvement, but it’s hard work breaking the old habits.
Now, when I look at you and your team playing I actually can see what you are talking about and where I’m going wrong. Never thought about it before…
Thank you for your individual attention. Awesome.

Hi everyone.
Chose Love Theme this month. I can play every bar properly, but stringing it all together and keeping going is more difficult!
Steven, your arrangement is really nice, thank you. One question: In your videos, what is holding your Uke in place? – I see no strap and it doesn’t seem to be your arm!
