kanae926ParticipantThere are ways to make your own straps/strap buttons without drilling. Here’s a tutorial with several options from Bernadette Teaches Music on YouTube. Personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable drilling holes into my ukes (even the cheap ones).

kanae926ParticipantSpencer, all you have to do is copy/paste the URL to the page in its own line and it will automatically display it for you (no embed code necessary).
kanae926ParticipantHe ironically had perfect timing sauntering in at the high note like,”Tada! I’m here to ruin your video.” 🤣
I have a couple more outtakes like this from past monthly challenges that weren’t so G-rated. 🤬😤😂

kanae926ParticipantNathalie, that was simply lovely! It was so relaxed and had a great feel. Such a beautiful tree in the background, too.
😊🎄🎶
kanae926ParticipantWatching your own playback is uncomfotable, for sure. I really notice all the good/bad technique from an objective perspective which helps me to fix bad habits. Also…it’s really the only way to get Andrew’s feedback and that’s worth the torture of having to record. I tried writing an email one time to get help on something and it’s easier for him to see/hear instead of reading a description. 😂
On a good note, it also tracks your progress and that always feels good knowing how much you’ve improved. So there’s that sliver of silver lining. 😝
kanae926ParticipantNice, @toastedbrains! I was seriously contemplating getting the Pono ATC (acacia tenor) a few months ago. I have the Pono MGC (mango concert) and I love it.
Looking forward to your next challenge video featuring the fancy new uke!

kanae926Participant@ukukelley1, best video epilogue ever! LOL. Great playing, too. 🙂
I can’t speak for everyone else, but that whole thought process is me every time (sans dog, but I do have a cat that has randomly interrupted a time or two) and I even do the lip thing you mentioned which I didn’t know I did until I played back one of my recordings. I have more bloopers than I can count!
I think Auld Lang Syne is an amazing arrangement, but alas, is above my current capabilities. I learned Silent Night in an hour, but am having the hardest time getting First Noel to click. I can play it okay while I have the sheet music, but I’m determined to memorize it for the video!
Happy holidays, everyone! Only 16 more days until the Kanile’a giveaway…am I the only one counting? 😀

kanae926ParticipantEXCELLENT reminder, Sheryl! I completely forgot my employer does that. I will need to make sure I submit my donation for them to match.
Thanks!!

kanae926ParticipantJakub, great playing! It’s faster than I can manage…I’m a bit envious. 😉
I love your uke! Is that the Enya EUC—MAD? I really really like that blue.

kanae926ParticipantWhat a great cause we can all participate in. 🙂 Donated $20 and signed up for their newsletter.
Ideally, I’d like to learn, play and sing Angels We Have Heard on High, but realistically, I’ll probably do First Noel instead because I haven’t cracked the code of singing and playing at the same time. 😂
I ❤️ Christmas songs! 🎄🎅
kanae926Participant@malachi, do you mean the syncopated rhythm? This song is way above my playing level, so I haven’t taken a look at the sheet music…sorry if I’m wrong on my assumptions. I’m terrible at rhythm in general, so syncopated beats are even harder for me to play. I always want to play on the downbeat!
Andrew would probably be better at answering this, but it just means the notes fall on the upbeat or off the beat (not on the downbeat). From what I gather by watching the beginning of the video, this is a 4/4 time signature which means there are 4 beats to a measure and a quarter note gets the beat. The downbeats are the 1, 2, 3 and 4 of every measure. Upbeat would be the “&” between each beat (1& 2& 3& 4&) where the emphasis is on the upbeat rather than on the beat (downbeat). The main beat might be silent or played through from the previous upbeat, but when the emphasis is on the upbeat, it means it’s syncopated. This type of rhythm is pretty typical of jazz or spirituals/gospels (anything that has an African heritage, hip hop too). It’s a departure from traditional (European) rhythms that are on the beat.
Sometimes I’ve heard of syncopated referred to as emphasis falling on 2 and 4 beats (1 2 3 4) rather than the regular 1 and 3 (1 2 3 4). I might be wrong here…Andrew help!
Beat just stopped being a word because I used it too many times and now it sounds weird. LOL.

kanae926Participant@dreadhead, all you have to do is copy/paste the regular URL link, not the embed code. It’s tricky the first time for many people (including me). It took me a few tries, too. I hope this helps!

kanae926ParticipantHi, all!
I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. 🙂
Here’s my November entry…it’s not perfect, but I think we can all agree that once you press that record button, there’s always a rogue/missing/muted note or four. LOL. I especially worked on timing as that always seems to be my biggest hurdle. If I didn’t want to botch it up too bad, I had to pace myself and I only got up to about 75% speed using the tab viewer. It kept me steady, but trying to play it any faster made me sloppier. Supposedly, slow and steady wins the race, but when I watched my playback, it seemed a little underwhelming. I’m going to need to learn to put some dynamics into my playing next.
I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER.
kanae926Participant😂😂😂
It’s a beauty! I can see why you tried getting your hands on it early. 😉
Looking forward to hearing you play it! I bet it’ll feel and sound so amazing! Congrats!!
