December 21, 2019 at 10:27 pm in reply to: Participate in the December 2019 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE! Win Kanile’a! #34479
santaiParticipantI’m rather astonished that my 13th take is already one I feel confident enough about to submit! As always, there’s still enough to work on, but as I will not be home starting tomorrow I wanted to put the upload behind me. 😉
Oh, and speaking of “behind me” – just in case you’re wondering what that blue sock is doing there behind me: That’s the Christmas stocking of our dog, so she doesn’t feel left out when we plunder our advent calendar.I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
As for all the other great submissions and posts – although I haven’t seen all of them yet…
@deadbuggy: I love your rendition of White Christmas. I listended to it over and over again. It’s really fun!So nice to have all these submissions with singing: @surfnrz, @brettboy, @suesbarn even when it was not a condition! And @nthibode – just… wow!
Also I want to thank @becky7777 and @rickeymike for always cheering everybody on with such kind and heartening words!
This is such a great community. I hope no one feels left out by my words – I’m sure there are lots of other great submissions I haven’t seen yet.Happy Holidays to everybody! 🙂

santaiParticipant@Stephen: Thanks for your feedback! The rhythm in bar 26 is actually clear to me. It just so happens, that as I am approaching the end of a song, I start getting nervous when recording, hoping that I won’t ruin a good take on the last few seconds. ^^;
@Andrew: I only found my name twice on the list. I wrote that I am a premium member and hope, that my pumpkin mask and skeleton t-shirt sufficed as a costume? 🙂October 31, 2019 at 10:35 pm in reply to: Participate in the October 2019 Member Challenge – WIN a CUSTOM Kanile’a! #33297

My wife had a lot of fun with my attempts to make this work with the pumpkin “mask” (which is actually a bag for sweets) getting in my way sometimes. I uploaded a take, where it all worked out fine, though. 😉
Happy Halloween everybody! 😀

santaiParticipantWow! Already time for the new challenge? I’m gladly looking forward to tackling “The Sound of Silence”!
It wasn’t too hard to decide: I don’t have a Low G yet, which leaves me with only two options. And as much as I admire Danse Macabre, I’m humbled by it’s perfomance. That’s definitely too advanced for me. ^^;I’m also looking forward to hearing all your submissions!! 🙂
@lyndallk: I downloaded the Tabs for “The Sound of Silence” via the usual link below the performance video (https://rockclass101.com/secureaccess/content/f/id/434/). This worked fine for me. The info link within the video only took me to other videos, just like you described – but I might just have misunderstood what you meant?September 25, 2019 at 9:50 am in reply to: Participate in the September 2019 Member Challenge – Next Level Strumming! #30927
santaiParticipantThank you Andrew!
I know that the basics tend to get fuzzy again, when I concentrate on something else too much – and there is so much to concentrate on! ^^;
I will definitely put some more work just on chord changes. The sooner I tidy this up, the better!September 24, 2019 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Participate in the September 2019 Member Challenge – Next Level Strumming! #30921
santaiParticipantFirst of all: Thanks so much for your feedback on my last submissions, Andrew and Stephen! Even the tiniest bits are extremely helpful. It keeps me motivated and really helps me to improve on my playing. I always hear you, for example, when I do a barre chord: “Straighten your finger!” 😀
For this month I decided to learn the percussive strumming technique. I love to observe how these kind of techniques day by day gradually make their way from my brain to my hand and finally leave some capacity to concentrate on other things again.
With this exercise I feel, I could still improve on cleaner chord changes.I’m already anticipating the drawing of the winner of the Honu Ukulele. Just since this August I suddenly feel very drawn to turtles – their friendly and wise serenity… So I couldn’t believe my eyes when you put up this Ukulele as a prize!
Keep up the great work everybody! So many great submissions already. 🙂

santaiParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER.
And yet another month gone by already!
I actually wanted to sing this song as a duet with my wife – we practiced a little, but not enough. ^^; There is still some kind of “singing” in this: Have fun with me going crazy with the mouth kazoo! 😀 This site is helping soooo much with not taking yourself too seriously. 😉
@Andrew: You asked me to upload a video this time, but time is pressing, so it’s just audio again.I managed to play this piece almost up to speed – which feels like good progress to me. Still, my playing lacked some time to tide up ringing strings. And never mind the breakdown in the middle of my performance – I got it back on track. 😀
Enjoy!
Also: I already saw some of all your great submissions and am soooo much looking forward to taking the time and listen to and watch all the others now!

June 10, 2019 at 11:48 am in reply to: June 10th, 2019 – Live Lesson Topic: Playing with Finesse #28147
santaiParticipantMy question is about staccato chords, like they happen to be played throughout the current challenge “Tonight You Belong To Me” (G-chord in melody A, and various chords throughout the whole melody B). I don’t know the real name for it, I’m just calling it staccato chords, because in the tabs it’s designated as staccato.
This technique, to stop chords from ringing by relaxing the fingers but still keeping them on the strings, is incredibly useful not just to give the piece character and underline the rhythm, but also to keep my playing tidy and reduce the ringing of strings when changing chords – so I definitely want to incorporate that more into my playing.Now here’s my problem/question: I tend to lose a steady grip on the neck of my ukulele when softening my fingers to dampen the chord and get the slight feeling it might slip – especially when using the U-shaped left-hand form 1 (which I understood should be used for barre chords)… How can I make sure I do still have a good hold on my ukulele while using this technique – even when playing while standing, where I can’t rest the uke on my thigh?
