ParticipantHi all,
Just found this thread, awesome that you’re asking the members for their input on the content of this website! Obviously already incredibly happy with what’s offered on here, but if I had to pick one thing to learn that I can’t seem to find anywhere else on the interwebz (apart from through private live online lessons), is a course on fingerpicking arrangements with alternating bass (often used in blues, e.g. freight train!!!). I guess it’s also very linked to the ragtime mentioned by @ukesilver 🙂
Also very much agree with the adding a female teacher for complex fingerpicking & vocal. If you could somehow convince Del Rey to do a course that would be a dream. Looking forward to what 2021 brings!

I would say hats off once again to Evan and Andrew for the amazing lesson on The Christmas Song, but in this case I think it’s more apt to say: let’s all put our Christmas hats on!!! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all, it’s been a wonderful year at RC101.
PS: I will donate $25 to UKC next week, what a great cause!

Love the theme this month! Had fun learning dream state. The cat guest appearance in @deadbuggy’s version is so cute, clearly a catchy tune that all want to get involved in! I managed to get the sound louder this time, but now I managed to get the focus wrong.. oh well, maybe next month I will finally get all pieces of the vid right.

Participant@sir_anzalot thanks for the tip re the sound level, I shall try recording the audio separately next time. Also really enjoyed your take of St. Anne’s Reel by the way! And thanks Andrew for the feedback, I will put some more effort into making sure that right hand does what it’s supposed to 🙂

After Out in the North I was secretly hoping there would be more lessons teaching this style, I’m so stoked to see it actually happened!!! So thanks for that RC101, and of course Steven for teaching it really well!!! I went for St Anne’s reel, which was a challenge, but a very fun one 🙂 good job everyone who has submitted already.
PS: the sound in my vid seems to be very quiet, does anyone have tips on how to edit that, so it becomes louder? So you don’t have to listen at 100 volume and then get scared to death at the next video when you forget to turn it down?

Participant@Andrew wow that was quick response, thanks for the feedback! I can see what you mean – I guess my freight train was just in a hurry hah. I just tried to play the first part at 170 bpm, to match the tempo of B&C, but that’s a tad too slow for my liking. Think I’ll have to slow down the A part but slightly up the B&C if I want to get the whole song in the same beat… I’ll give it a try 🙂

Decided to board the freight train this month 🙂 So happy to see a piedmont blues tune here on RC101!!! I could not resist and had to incorporate a tiny bit of Elizabeth’s famous root-bass picking at least in part A. Also I shall admit, I kind of had a brainfreeze and forgot the last part and improvised there…. Oh and @Elixir123, love the compilation, great job!

There I was thinking Out in the North took a lot of hours to learn…. then comes along Careless Whisper – hah. Super satisfying though, it is an absolutely amazing composition! It was a big challenge and after @brettboy & @surfnrz magnificently groovy renditions, I shall humbly present my more basic version. Alas, I’m already happy I could remember the entire song (more or less) and get it submitted in time – yay!

ParticipantFirst, just want to say, loving the entries, really enjoy seeing them all! After my early submission of Out in the North I had some spare time, so I decided to take a punt at Pineapple Blues too 🙂 . I know it won’t count as another submission, but I thought I’d share anyway – hope that’s ok. Let me know if not and I’ll stick to one video next time haha. Just too many good songs to learn eh… Anyway, thanks for giving everyone detailed feedback, really appreciate it!

Unfortunately didn’t have time to submit last month, but here’s my try at Out in the North. The right hand technique was super tricky, I concur, but it was super fun to take on the challenge of learning a completely different style! Took a LOT of practicing – this is how it turned out 🙂 :

ParticipantHi there!
Been following rock class 101 for quite a while, finally decided to take the plunge and become a member and submit an entry 🙂 It’s been fun practicing, here’s the result, my attempt at Lagrima. Not quite flawless, but can’t fault the instructions – the were excellent (as always). Thanks!
