This was a great challenge and I almost have it memorized! If I only had a couple of more days to work on this. I will be playing this in Bernadette’s open mic get together on Saturday, so I’m anxious to actually play this live, which I don’t do often. Another great arrangement by Matt.October 28, 2023 at 3:53 pm in reply to: Participate in the October 2023 Member Challenge – WIN $935 Kanile’a #59199

I took the easier path this month and recorded a new version of Haunted Uke. I really like this song and it is good practice for counting. I find bars 15 & 16 most challenging to get the timing correct.
Happy Halloween!

june2020MemberMy choice for this month was a tough one. Fields of Gold was the very first song I learned to play on uke and convinced me that I enjoyed fingerstyle better than strumming. However, I found the RockClass101 version harder than Matt’s original version. Then, I really tried to go out of my comfort zone to learn Cielito but just couldn’t get it good enough by the deadline. So, I decided on My Heart will go on. I still need to work on getting vibrato and feeling to emit from my uke. Let me know if I did better with the rhythm on this one. This time I worked with the player to get better at that.

One Finger Etude: A very pretty, haunting and relaxing piece to play. I really enjoyed this one and it was simple enough to allow for some rubato and dynamic practice. I could play this one all day.May 30, 2023 at 8:13 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2023 Challenge! You Choose: $1,745 OR $2,900 Kanile’a #57554

I chose the beginner blues strumming for this month. I’ve always been challenged by strumming and adding a percussive element increases the difficulty level even more. I will need to practice, practice, practice to improve this. I enjoyed playing the ending. Thank you for any feedback you can give me.March 29, 2023 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Participate in the March 2023 Member Challenge: WIN Classical Ukulele! #56926
june2020MemberI’m playing my brand new Mainland uke courtesy of RockClass101 and Uke Republic. It’s a beautiful uke and I had it strung with a low G.
I chose Danse Paysanne this month. I find dynamics to be quite challenging and I hope I accomplished some of what was presented in the lesson.

june2020MemberI chose Etude No. 12 because it was way out of my comfort zone and I wanted a new challenge and I really liked the sound of the melodies. It definitely needs a lot more work and I made some errors in Melody C that I shouldn’t have, but I was so thrilled that I could get through Melody B with some success that I didn’t want to risk any more recordings. I think I need about another year to get success with the correct fingerpicking to build up speed!

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen – I didn’t have a lot of time to put towards this piece and it shows. I would like advice on how to make it not sound so choppy? I think if I were to play it faster and from memory, then it would get more smooth? I watched others play it and I think I need to work on the fingering transitions, also.
Merry Christmas and thank you for all the great advice in 2022!

I really enjoyed learning this piece! This is the first one with a backing track that I could play with. It is such a haunting melody and so many skills to learn with this one.
I wish the backing track had recorded louder. I didn’t realize it wasn’t very loud until I uploaded and again, I apologize for the chirping noises in the background. I think they really liked this one!
I would still appreciate it if AJ could post the piano score with this one when he gets the time so I can play the piano part. I just love the way this piece sounds. I followed your advice for the chords from the tutorial, but I’m someone who needs the sheet music to follow. 🙂

june2020MemberOk. Maybe not in time for this challenge, but if he had the time later, I’d be interested in that for the future.

june2020MemberI chose “Summertime Blues” so I could work on chucking and also a good opportunity to work on note counting since there are some tricky spots.

june2020MemberHi Andrew,
Would it be possible for you to share the piano score portion of the duet for the Haunted Uke tune?
Thanks,
