lisadmhParticipantAre the chords usually the melody that goes with the lead to make easy chord melody, or are they harmony that I can’t do anything with?

lisadmhParticipantHi. This was a great lesson. I’ve been off the uke for almost 2 months due to life biting me in the butt. This caught my attention and I hope I’m back.
I seem to have lost my calliuses. I’ve got some work to do to get them back. Ouch.
Efficiency tips in the lesson are much appreciated and eye opening. Just watching, I quickly found some improvements that were not intuitive to me, but that will help with some tricky transitions that wreck an original of mine. Thank you!

lisadmhParticipantThanks guys. I’m going to focus the lesson on composition, in the spirit of this challenge.
Slight delay on my part though as 1) I have Wi-Fi problems, and 2) Tomorrow we’re saying goodbye to the little kitty cat I wrote this challenge song for. It’s hard, but I’ll always have her song.
I’ll let you know how the lesson goes when I manage to schedule it.
lisadmhParticipantLol. I’m with Andrew, Rickey. What was that? Thanks for the giggle.

lisadmhParticipantAaaaaahhhhh! I finally won!! Thank you Andrew and randomizer software!
I get to meet Andrew live on Skype! 😁
I have no idea what to do for a lesson. Zero clue. I’ve never had a live uke lesson. Any thoughts?
lisadmhParticipantMy low G fluorcarbon fit just fine. And I actually think the wound low G from aquila had an even wider diameter?? It was a beast.
lisadmhParticipantI’m in! Depending, of course, on how hard Andrew makes it, lol.
Interesting song list!
lisadmhParticipantWhat a nice gesture, Andrew.
We’re all thinking of you, Anne.
lisadmhParticipantNow I want living waters. I’m avoiding international shipping but the selection is so stupidly limited around here. Tell us what you think of them!

lisadmhParticipantAgreed, maria, recording is scary at first but It’s so useful for learning and working with the anxiety. My recordings are never as good as it sounds in my head, partly because of recording anxiety and partly because I don’t hear the mistakes as much in my head. It reminds us how much we have to learn-and if you do it regularly it reminds us of how far we’ve come! I’ve been entering the challenges since my second month on the Uke and while I’ve never won a challenge, I’ve won so much in my playing.
Welcome to the adventure! Any recording is welcome. There is no shame, just support.
And, just in case you think this is easy for the rest of us maria, FYI I’m stumbling through at 50% speed on Bourée. Shooting for 90 and memorized by the end of the month recording but there are no guarantees.

lisadmhParticipantAh, for strings, there are as many opinions as there are string options.
I like fluorcarbon. I had an aquila wound low G string and hated it. It was boomy and overpowering and just unpleasant. Switched to low G fluorcarbon and I’m in love. It’s a normal string but lower, not something that sounds and looks like it’s on the wrong instrument, like the aquila.

lisadmhParticipantThank you Stephen. I do notice in videos that my hand seems twisted but it feels okay. I sometimes try to work on straightening it but that feels weird on the fingers…?
Andrew, I hope you feel better soon! Stephen, thanks for stepping in to help him out.

lisadmhParticipantGlad you found your strings, sprint! I’m a huge fan of fluorcarbon too. I tried them on a Uke in a store and had to have them. The low g is so much better than what I got from aquila – just a normal string, not an overpowering what-do-I-do-with-this sort of thing.
That said, my kala super soprano came with fluorcarbon, don’t know what brand, and I don’t think they’re the right strings for him. I wish there was more variety to choose from around here. I’ll switch him up soon and see what I get.

lisadmhParticipantThanks Rickey! That imagery works just fine for me. 😁
Regular phone mic. I’m between residences due to some delightful domestic drama and forgot to bring my new mic with me. Drat.

lisadmhParticipantLyndal, excellent. As Rickey says, that’s a long time to sustain attention and clean playing. You did an awesome job.
Thanks for the comments on my song, guys.
Here’s my second original for the month. It’s not quite polished, but I wanted to share, because it’s one of those days when I needed a little happy in my day.
Again, very simple, based on stock chords, but I found the chords using the circle of fifths, so that’s progress. It’s got some interesting timing in it, or it would if I could pull it off. This is maybe not the greatest take. I have come to love writing songs though.
Thanks for listening.
