I think what they mean is finger the chord with your left hand, but just play the riff. It’s a bit misleading, because that’s most likely what you’d do if they said nothing at all.

While these guys are deciding whether to do a version, have you tried this?

Fair warning: This is by far the worst entry I have ever done. I just ran out of time to practice because I had so many other things come up this month. The best I could manage was to practice playing through my mistakes and not getting too out of time (neither of which I managed particularly well, but I did my best).
Yeah. I’m freaking out. This month has been all over the place. I had lots of work early in the month and then my wife caught COVID, so it’s been very strange.
If I don’t get this done, I’ll probably do Waltz at the last minute. I reckon I can get a good recording of that with about 30 minutes’ practice.
@hacksaw – I’m only just getting comfortable with it, too.
I had initially decided to sit out this challenge, but after listening to everyone’s beautiful entries, I thought I’d join in with only a few days to go. Given that I only had a few days to learn it, my only option was Jurassic Park. Good thing I really like the arrangement.
I keep around 10 in my head, but I forget most things I learn. Like @andrew said, the trick is to play them often. Take a few minutes a day to run through some stuff you want to remember, while spending most of your practice time learning something else.
