lakeside339ParticipantOh, this is perfect. I have just started the started to triplet course, so the timing is right. I’d love to win this ukulele. I really miss living in Hawaii and it would be so nice to see the islands everytime I look at the uke.

lakeside339ParticipantAh – thanks for the feedback Andrew. I think I have been using my pinky about 50% of the time to hit that note, but was thinking of it as improving my stretch. I did not think of it as letting the other notes continue to ring. I will keep this tip in mind going forward

lakeside339ParticipantMy ipad does not seem to record loudly – turn up your speakers! Once again – multiple attempts to record cleanly. Either buzzy notes or a nice harmonic – not all in the same recording 🙂 I have also been able to play it faster than this – but only if I am not recording. I know y’all understand…. Enya tenor with low G.

lakeside339ParticipantLike many of you, as soon as I turn on a recording device, everything goes to pot. I kept going slower and slower. 🙂 This was my cleanest attempt of many. I made the recording to show my hands for any feedback. I feel like I am flicking my hand of finger as I hit the individual notes and having difficulty keeping the claw shape. Though it doesn’t look too bad in the video.
Didn’t have time to get past the etude before the month is coming to an end. But I intend to finish the course and gradually get up to speed. Now I just need a banjolele to practice on (hint, hint)-

lakeside339Participantyes Holly – you are excluded from winning. 😉 Nice job and it is nice to hear the Goldtone.
Is anyone besides me struggling to keep the claw shape? I keep wanting to either strum up after a down brush (like my fingers get caught), or shoot one finger out to hit the melody note (especially on any but the A string).
Maybe it is just a matter of continued practice with an unfamiliar technique-

lakeside339ParticipantBecky, as far as I can tell, Chris is saying you have your choice of middle finger vs index. For me, middle is easier since it sticks out a little further, so I don’t accidentally hit something with my other fingers. Andrew says you still need to keep the claw shape, which makes sense. But look at Chris’s pinky – it is a semi claw, sort of what I think some people with arthritis will have to do. (so far my arthritis only hits my thumb joint, co not an issue – yet. Isn’t it fun getting older? 🙂 )

lakeside339ParticipantWell – I am amazed that no one at all has yet posted themselves playing ;-)! Usually 1-2 people have already posted their results/entry by now.
This is great – I have been wanting to dive in to the clawhammer course since you announced it. And the day before I saw this challenge, I ordered a (cheap from China) banjolele. It would be great to win the Goldtone and give the one I ordered to one of our youngest family members.
Starting the lessons now
lakeside339ParticipantStarted the harmonics course. When playing all 4 strings (strum), as you lift the left hand finger off, is it more of a roll off? I.e does it come off the 4th string incrementally sooner than the 3rd string etc., all the way down to the 1st? Or do you lift the whole finger at once. It look like Andrew does the former (roll). I am trying both and cannot really tell as I am not yet consistent enough in getting the to ring every time.

lakeside339ParticipantNat – great job on Helen’s Theme – and the Halloween theme. Moose = Outdoor Ukulele company, right? The uke sounds great!what size?
lakeside339ParticipantThanks Andrew –
That is what I thought, but it just sounded low. Hopefully my er will get better at discerning this question in a while 🙂
