Well, I wanted to learn a more complicated finger style piece that had more TRAVIS picking but I took to long to decide so I had to pick an easier piece. Which is NOT easy for ME. Feb. is always a complicated month for me and I had to complete some Continuing education for my Professional License as well. So I ended up with the lesson for Finger picking Etude #13. I still have LOTS of mistakes but this was my best take out 150😝🤓! Thanks for the lessons Rock Class! I should have skipped this month but I’m trying to be consistent and do a lesson and submit a video EVERY month. We’ll see how far I can make it.😜 I am at my record now, 5 months and counting!
I’m still trying to decide! too many choices! I think I am going to do something in the Irish/Scottish genre. I’ve Been wanting to learn more in this genre, so I’m looking at the selection in RockClass101 lessons. I’m getting close to making my selection! 😜
Ok, here is my final version of “Spanish Romance”
I am almost there but not quite. I am continuing to work on it. I hope to get up the courage to play this piece for an open mic session at “Strum In The Desert” hosted by @BernadetteTeachesMusic this weekend, down in the desert in the far south end of California. I have much more work to do
but believe me, it is soooo much better then it was last week. I did do some more practice videos last week but forgot to post them and I can’t stand to watch them now!
I worked with the tab viewer for the “tricky bits” and with repetition and then rest, I improved.

This is me practicing 2 of the many tuff transitions in Spanish Romance. I still have a lot of work to do 😜😍
My Plan for improving for the January 2024 challenge
1) Execution – I will be working on Spanish Romance which I first tried to learn in the Love themed monthly challenge March of 2021. I always wanted to relearn that one and now is my chance! I find I am learning things a little faster than I did almost 3 years ago! I would hope so. I guess I am a budding intermediate. I plan on memorizing this song and applying Vibrato, Rubato and Dynamics that are taught for this song. I would really love to have this song in my “pocket” so to speak, one that I can perform for an open mic or for my family. I am NOT able to practice every day but I will do my best to set aside practice time as often as possible.
2) Application – I will first work on the “tricky bits” as Steven would say, such as the difficult chord transitions in the B section. I will work on memorizing by taking it 4 measures at a time and also get better at practicing with the Tab Viewer. When I have those bits in hand, I will work on the Dynamics, Vibrato and Rubato as appropriate in Spanish Romance.
3) Evaluation – I am just beginning to work on it but I watched my recording from March 2021 and it was terrible! I already can execute the A section better than in the past. Now to work on the “tricky bits”! I will post a few progress videos as I am able.
@andrew hi, I found one issue with the participants list- @planetfink is in the list twice, I mean two pairs of the name. Thanks

I didn’t have much time this month but I gave it a go! I know nothing about Anime bu I loved this
piece! I watched the movie “My Neighbor Totoro” the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it!@Andrew – Thanks for the encouragement! I’m a slow learner, but at least I can see that I’m learning and improving! I am getting a bit better at practicing with the tab viewer too!😜 – MJ

My version of The Haunted Uke –
I didn’t want to do this song because I did it last year and I wanted to challenge
myself with a harder song. So I started working on The Hourglass but didn’t have much
time to master it due to trips away with family who didn’t want to hear me dink around
on the Uke! (their loss 😜)
Soooo, YESTERDAY, I watched my video from last year and it was very BAD with the timing.
I started relearning Haunted Uke yesterday and I feel it is 90% better than last year!
I didn’t have time to add filters and extra Uke parts but I’m mostly very happy with 2 days

I am leaving on Sept.10th for cruise in Europe (YAY) so if I can get one of the songs done and in this week, I’d love to enter. I am bringing a ukulele with me but I won’t have the time to record or go online. I may do the minor Blues Jam but I am loving all the other songs as well. The Blues Rock Riff and Summer Nights, especially. But, sadly, I have NO TIME! Have fun and Uke On!!🤙🏼🤘🏻
-MJI love this song “Fields Of Gold” arranged by Matt Dahlberg! I only have one HiG Ukulele but it was perfect for this song. I plug it into and amp so it would be louder. But it is hot here in NorCal so there is background “shushing” noise from my fan!
this has been another busy hard month with not enough time to really get this down but I will keep working on it.
I almost had it all memorized but my brain disconnects when the recording starts. 😩
I start the song, get half way and then I restarted it. ugh!
@Andrew- I know you will tell me to practice with the tab viewer, but sometimes it is so hard to practice with it! But I’m trying…😩
