I’m a Premium Member but I guess that doesn’t matter for this month 😋
I’ve been working on the Celtic Etude and the “thumb” thing and fast pull offs are very challenging for me! I loved the challenge though. I have issues with my left hand so my wrist became very sore after working on this piece for a few weeks and A LOT over the last couple days!🥸

Etude #3 played on my Ohana Baritone with Tenor Octave strings (GCEA)
I practice this Etude on my Romero Tiny Tenor and my Lanakai Concert but I really like how it sounded with the octave tenor strings!

My right hand fingers go their own way on picking song like this, that’s why I wanted to practice it. I didn’t get it right at the beginning of the video but I kept playing it until I almost got it all right!!😜

I did my best since being sick but here is my terrible “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” chord melody.
Andrew, I contribute $51.50 to Ukulele Kids Club every Christmas season, thanks to you!

Here is my version of Haunted Uke. I needed to pick an easier song because I was not sure how much time I’d have this month. I chose this song because I needed to work on playing along with someone else in time.
I still made lots of mistakes but this was the best cut of the lot!
I also worked on lining up 3 tracks for this video and it went surprisingly well, which is usually NOT the case!
I really enjoyed this cool song, with it’s “ethereal” feel! I am wearing my butterfly stuff… sorta of a costume… 😜

I didn’t think I was going to have any time to post this month. I found some time today at the last minute! I recorded Etude # 13 because that’s all I had time for and it is not up to speed, because I only started today 😩.
I really wanted to learn Travis Picking and this song had a small amount of that. I hope to go back and learn Etude # 5 later for the Travis Picking practice!

(oops! after posting and listening back, I think I missed a measure (9) going into the ending?)

I thought I’d post an update for “Aura Lee” since I’m back from my Maui vacation and camping trip. I was able to work on it a little while away. It is a little bit better than my first video. Aloha and Mahalo for the awesome lessons on RC101!

But I don’t think we need to say that for this challenge, right?
I have NEVER recorded this early in the month! I just don’t have time to learn the harder songs.
I am getting ready to go on vacation to Elvis’ favorite place (or maybe 2nd fav?),nHAWAII!!!
So I thought I’d get a jump on the easy song, Aura Lee, AKA Love Me Tender.
I recorded at about 86 bpm while accompanying myself on my D-Ho Tiny Tenor (low G). I play the
Melody on a Slim Body Tenor with a High G. I may revisit this and re-record a better version if I have time in-between trips this month.
    Aloha and Happy summer everyone!

@Andrew – thanks for looking. I have NO idea why my submissions weren’t going through.
I’m very frustrated with the computer! The main thing that took me too close to the final minutes, was my microphone! for some reason my Mic or the interface was not working so I had to record AGAIN with the laptop mic. That is why I was so stressed in that recording. And then it wouldn’t “Submit”. I kept trying to “submit” at least 10 times.
Oh well, so I don’t get these entries. At least I have some entries from April and May, I think!

BTW, I worked all day yesterday, so I only had a short window to record. I knew the deadline. But it just didn’t work out for me, UGH! I’m in California so the 9 o’clock deadline comes up fast!
    Thanks, Mary Jane

I also was trying to post close to the deadline but my computer and your website were not cooperating!!! I tried to “Submit” like 10 times. and I tried to just send a message and nothing went through. I was logged in and I have internet service.
This is hours later and something finally went through, so I am writing more.
Andrew, Will you see if anything got caught in the spam filter, please?

I will try to upload my video again since this message went through. It is not good since I only had a few days to work on this song. I Did manage to memorize it my not up to full speed. As always, my fingers freak out when the recording starts!

I think I am opting for “The Hall of the Mountain King” as well. the only ukulele I have with 18 frets, is also the only ukulele I have with a High G string. It is a “no name” solid wood travel tenor (slim body), made in China. It sounds pretty good but the intonation up the neck is far Inferior to the Uke that I would rather use— my new D-Ho Romero, splalted mango Tiny Tenor (low G), but it only has 17 frets.
I’m NOT complaining, mind you! I’m blessed to have more than two ukuleles!

This is also the first time that I picked a Level 4 song in any RC101 challenge!
I chose “Let It Be” because I love the song so much and if you saw my earlier post, I did a singing version (NOT a great one, still needs work) and wanting to try my hand at the chord Melody version. It is very hard and I have a long way to go on tackling this piece. Thanks to Stephen for his Brill’ arrangement, with the smashin’ riffs up the neck, which stretched my fingers!! 😜🤙🏼
I needed many recordings to get this one where I made the least number of mistakes and at least, didn’t stop and redo sections. 😳 I will keep working on this, Stephen! 🤘🏻
I do not have it memorized yet, either, I’m so sad that I cannot devote everyday to Ukulele Practice! My life has been very busy with good stuff and not so good “bumps in the road”

@nthibode that was beautiful, Natalie. I love that song as well but haven’t been bold enough to try and sing it

@ccwuke thanks Chris for the kind words! Dogs are great. Lucy was my 2nd JRT and it hurts to say goodbye. Thanks for sharing about you lab. I love Labs!
Great job on your version of Let it Be! oops I mean Yesterday! Which is my other favorite Beatles sad song!

This is NOT my official entry but a singing version I did back in March ’22 for a different Beatles Challenge.
It has some elements from a chord melody version that I could Not learn at the time.
RC101’s version is even more difficult but I am giving it a shot because I love this song so much.
I “feel” it in all the sad and hopeful ways intended by the song. I will try to have a version done by May 30th but I know the difficulty level is WAY above my skill.
I just had to say goodbye to my 16 yo Dog, Lucy,(2 days ago) so yeah, I’m sad. 😢

@andrew -thanks for the kind words. I definitely just started it and didn’t have a full grasp of the B section. I was beginning to practice the picado picking but under pressure of the recording, it must gone out the window!!!😜
