johanna2509ParticipantHi all!
I chose Misirlou this month. I started practicing the lead part and learning the tremolo picking (the mario party analogy from Matt helped me haha). I had in mind to submit the rhythm part if I can’t learn the tremolo picking and the song in one month. Together with exams, my practice time was short, so here is the rhythm part. To show my progress on the lead, I uploaded a progress video as well. The backing track and my playing is not in sync in some parts. I find the transition from the tremolo part to the thumb picking quite difficult.
So here it is:

Hi all!
I chose the One Finger Etude. So simple but beautiful! Great piece to apply different dynamics.
I always appreciate the feedback! (although I forgot to answer last month…)May 11, 2023 at 3:51 am in reply to: Participate in the May 2023 Challenge! You Choose: $1,745 OR $2,900 Kanile’a #57447

Hi all!
I chose the Rhythmic Variations and it is super fun! But more difficult than I expected. I love different strumming variations and this lesson gives you a lot of tools/concepts to combine and make your own strumming pattern 🙂
On the island strum variation, I tried to only hit the a string before transitioning to the next chord to make switching easier. However, I messed up in bars 11-12 where I didn’t hit the a string properly.

I chose Etude no. 32. It kinda gave me The Witcher vibes, maybe because it is in the same key as the tutorial for Toss a Coin To Your Witcher (?)
I really enjoyed learning this piece, but time to practice was short this month. My brain froze at minute 0:46 but I decided to just continue as I would if it was a live performance (even though I would only play for family members at most :)). However, I am happy with my progress because I could practice arpeggiated strums 🙂April 1, 2023 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Participate in the March 2023 Member Challenge: WIN Classical Ukulele! #56985

johanna2509ParticipantHello! I had a busy month with exams and being in the process of moving out from my parents. Here is Study in B Minor. I enjoyed learning it and I look forward to the April challenge!
And sorry for my cat purring into my phone while recording 😀 Maybe he likes classical ukulele.March 1, 2023 at 7:50 am in reply to: Participate in the February 2023 Member Challenge: WIN Ohana Pequeno Ukulele! #56512

johanna2509ParticipantHi, I chose the Funk Riff. My first choice was the Celtic Etude, but I struggled so hard to fret the first bar… so I had to switch. I would have never learned a tune in that style if not for a monthly challenge. But it is good to try out something new! I played it over and over again, it is kinda addicting!
@jbmills07 I love your videos with Ziggy on your shoulders, so cute!January 14, 2023 at 1:39 pm in reply to: Participate in the January 2023 Member Challenge: WIN Mainland Ukulele! #55720

johanna2509ParticipantThank you @rebeca and @sir_anzalot!
I guess you can just start learning piano, you don’t have to build calluses haha 🙂
It is indeed hard to choose which song to learn of all the Zelda tunes, so I just learn all of them 🙂November 1, 2022 at 3:17 pm in reply to: Participate in the November 2022 Member Challenge – WIN $6,000 Kanile’a #54494

Hi hi,
I am a huge fan of the Zelda series and so happy about the recent tutorials! 🙂
I learned Song of Storms right after it came out. This was also the first time that I played the backing track by myself and combined ukulele and piano.
However, the downloadable backing track is a bit different than what AJ played, so I sticked to the notes AJ played in the performance version (there were a few notes less).
I recorded both parts with the piano backing track on headphones, but after the piano break, the ukulele and piano are slightly out off sync, but after a bar, it is synced again.
That was a lot fun! I also started learning Great Fairy Fountain and my index finger already hurts from all the barre chords haha 🙂-
