@andrew thank for the tips. I have been trying to work on my pulling issues. i’ve gotten a little better. I THINK it is related to me just pressing really hard and the more tense i get the worse it gets. I have been trying to play some things slowly and try to figure out just how hard/lightly i need to press to get a good sound in hopes that will help with the pulling ( but the faster i play–and more nervous i get, the more tense I get. when i make my recordings it is sometimes as if I am strangling the instrument)– I will continue to work on this. i think in time, with practice, i can get there.

My august submission. Still time in the month to work on transitions and speed, but this was just the best time in my schedule to record. Thus, still a work in progress.

Running out of time. Here is my attempt at stairway to heaven. This was really beyond me but given the electric prizes, I felt compelled to try. Many struggles and the alternating chording and muting with the left hand was new to me. One thing I have been trying to correct is mt tugging at the strings. It’s still there, but I think it is less than it has been, so hopefully making progress on that. The challenges are all about progressing and I think that had I not been participating in these that I definitely would have come this far in the last approximately year and a half. My warnings to you should you choose to watch this

I chose a song that is really beyond my skills so I will be a last minute poster as it will take every bit of time to be presentable. However, I do want to comment on how wonderful everyone is doing. It has been really enjoyable to watch many people sing. There are a lot of nice voices in this group

@lisadmh I have simplified in a couple of places too. I can tell you it will be nowhere near the performance by @pysanky. Bravo @pysanky

@lisadmh good job. I was glad to see someone post this song. I chose it too and have been struggling. Have thought about giving up and doing a switch-a-roo at the last minute, but you have inspired me to keep going.

Nice job. I used to play this on the violin many many years ago. I played all classical, but there were a few pieces that were bluegrass that I picked up on my own to ‘fiddle’ around and have fun. You did a good job with this. Just makes me think fun.

@andrew I am giving stairway to heaven a try (may have to give up and switch but hope not). Barring 2nd fret and fretting 7 is not happening for me G* at measure 20. Wonerdering if since it appears to me (I could be wrong) that that 7 fret (B) is the same as 2nd fret on the A, can this be played as barre fret 2nd on cea and mute the e string?

such cool prizes! What to do? I would love to do Crazy (voted for it in the last vote-off); but, I am NOT a singer. Who wouldn’t want to play Stairway to Heaven. Have glanced at it a couple of times, but I think it is beyond my skills. At this point the only absolute is No singing for me. what to do, what to do? Going to be a fun month 🙂

Thank you @andrew. I will give your suggestion a try. Think I may video myself while practicing too. I can see just how much I am doing this when watching the video.

It has been a difficult month. I’ve been battling COVID for most of the month and have not gotten the practice time needed. I chose La Donna e mobile. Really fun though my performance does not show it. This is one I want to continue with and have in my everyday list of tunes. It is that fun. Hopefully I’ll improve on it. @andrew I tried to be aware of my left hand and not tug on the strings too much. Thought I had improved but watching myself, I am still pulling on them, will continue working on that. Anyone else who has had this issue, I would love to hear how you fixed it. Here is my video

@andrew thanks for the tips. That transition is much easier. Also, I too, have noticed on various videos when I watch myself, that I tend to pull on the strings. Definitely not intentional. I think it may be because I feel that I have to press so hard. Not sure if I always do it or if it is when recording and more tense. I am going to try to keep an eye on that. If it is something mental like nerves or just thinking I have to press harder than I really do, hopefully I can correct. My worry though might be that perhaps my form on my right hand might be causing it. I played violin for many years and I think that creeps into my form. Many times my right hand is not really facing the strings (if that makes sense) so maybe that creates more of a reach on the G and C… Not really sure at this point but will try to be more aware and see if I can fix it.

Last month I decided to not shy away from songs I would like to play based on their difficulty. My thought was that by pushing my skill limits, I will improve. I chose ‘Yesterday’, which is definitely beyond my level, but was still fun. I could use several more weeks on this.
