Here is my version of Yesterday for the May challenge. My goals were to memorize the song and to focus on progress rather than perfection. I recall Andrew’s comments that there really isn’t that much music in this song. But it certainly challenged my skill level. And I think the simplicity of the melody highlights my mistakes. I realize there are plenty of rhythm missteps and hesitations, and I wish my tone was better. I was close to giving up on submitting something, especially as I am out of time and have company visiting. But here it is mistakes and all. I am looking forward to viewing everyone’s submissions.

And on this Memorial Day Weekend in the United States, I am sending thoughts to veterans, military families, and everyone impacted by war throughout the world.

    Take care.

Here’s my April Submission of Minuet in G (AKA C Major). I was impressed by how much the backing track messed with me after practicing it “solo”, sort of like when I hit the record button. It was a good challenge for me! I very much enjoyed the lesson and learning the song. Thanks again to Rock Class 101 and best wished to all.

    Happy Spring!

Movies AND Ukulele! Two of my most favorite things! Here is my March submission of The Godfather. I loved learning this song and now want to binge all 3 movies (again). I did a million takes yet hesitated and flubbed at different points each take. One of my goals was to play by memory, even with the record button pushed (which can cause my mind to go blank and my fingers to forget what to do). I am also trying to improve my tone and sustain.

Thanks again for the great lesson. I am looking forward to viewing everyone’s submissions.

I hope everyone is doing well. Think Spring!

Here’s my version of Daybreak. I really enjoyed learning this lovely song. It reminds me of sunshine, birds chirping, and gentle morning breezes rather than the reality of the ice and howling winds that have been outside my window these days. I wish my tone was as lovely as Andrews, which is something I am working on and this was the best of my million takes.

I hope everyone is doing well.

I apologize if this is a duplicate. I hit submit earlier, then nothing happened. Anyway here’s my January submission of Five Foot Two. I loved learning the song and the many strumming variations taught in the course. Thank you RC 101. I look forward to the next 500!

Here is my December submission of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Despite memorizing the song, I freeze and tense up when it comes time to record and resort to tabs yet again. And sustain goes out the window too. Oh well, I had fun learning the song and am looking forward to playing it for my grandson when I seen him soon! Thanks again for a great lesson.

I wish you all a happy holiday season and a joyous, prosperous, and healthy new year.

Here’s my version of Etude in E Minor for my November submission. It was another busy month with little time for ukulele, but I very much enjoyed learning this song. I was successful with a goal of memorizing the piece. I struggle with memorization on a good day and am especially challenged once I try to record. I am still working to play more smoothly and am uite inconsistent with that dang harmonic! That said, thanks again for another great lesson. I am looking forward to viewing all of the other submissions.

Happy holidays to anyone celebrating anything (or everything) over the next few weeks.

Here’s my version of Moon River. At one point I had thought I would craft some sort of Breakfast at Tiffany’s costume, but I don’t think the long gloves would work with ukulele picking. I love this song and it was a fun to learn. I will continue to work on that swing rhythm, but I can’t quite get the original out of my head. Thanks Matt for another great lesson!

I hope you all are staying well.

Here’s my version of Chopsticks for the September challenge. This was a fun song to learn and I added a couple of variations from when I used to play it on the piano. I had done the clawhammer lessons awhile ago and this month’s challenge was also a nice reminder to pick up my banjolele again.

Here’s my submission of Aloha ‘Oe for the July challenge. Thanks for the great lesson! I just wish the recording was as good as it sounds in my head before I see hit that blasted record button. This still has plenty of hesitations, but it’s the best of my million takes. And I especially find it hard to get those high notes clear and in tune. That said, it was a fun song to learn.

I hope you are all doing well.

Here’s my submission of Rock Around the Clock. This month was a bit crazy for me and I was left with just a couple of days to work on this. There are plenty of hesitations and buzzing and it’s not up to full speed. But I had lots of fun learning the song and this is the best of my zillion takes. Thanks Matt for the arrangement and great lesson.

I hope everyone in the Rock Class community is doing well.

This version of Smoke on the Water may have been better left burning in a smoking campfire somewhere or doused in water, but here it is all the same. I can imagine playing so much smoother without the stutters, string buzz, and missed rhythms and notes, but then I hit record and . . . .

It’s been fun to learn such a classic song. Thanks for the great lesson. I hope you are all doing well.

Here’s my submission of Avatar: The Last Airbender. I loved this medley, especially the Leaves from the Vine section. I had played around with some of the other options for this month but couldn’t get this song out of my head. I know I’m showing my age, but I remember my son loving the Last Airbender and I think I now need to find a way to binge watch it! There are plenty of mistakes and, as always, I tense up and my meager efforts to sustain notes goes out the window. At least I did a better job of not rushing too much.

Thanks again to RC 101. Happy Spring!

    Take care,
    Karen
